@tim_dunkerton Sorry, not really following you. Are you saying this approximation does not satisfy these impermeability theorems? I don't think that is true. The paper discusses impermeability of isobars to absolute vorticity under the WTG scaling.
@tim_dunkerton Physical meaning seems clear enough to me: atmospheric flow is approximately in simultaneous WTG balance (divergent component) and non-linear balance (rotational). Question is at what scales and what types of flows is this valid in the tropics.
