The bath tub model for carbon pollution rises once again in this @polycrisis essay. As a *mental* model it’s very limited. Any metaphor that needs explaining (as this does) doesn’t get traction in public comms. Plus it’s undermines the essential point: 1/n

Once again, the yearly WMO announcement about hitting 1.5C is confusing reporters and others. We are NOT going to hit the Paris Target in the next 5 years. That is wrong. The IPCC reports we are on track to hit the target some time in the 2030s. Confusion explained here 👇.

Climate change is no longer a scientific problem - the prizes handed out are for work done over 50 years ago. Further, climate change is no longer an economic problem - due to the revolution in technology over the past 10 years. At this point 90-95% of the problem is political.

I’m seeing a lot of tweets explaining that under global warming the atmosphere holds 4% more water per degree C. This focus on the changes in the average distracts from the changes in the extremes. The increase in extreme rainfall events is WAY, WAY, WAY more than 4%. #IDA
