This really is a historic moment. The Ocean covers two-thirds of the planet, provides half the oxygen we breath, absorbs vast amounts of CO2 & provides food for billions.
This Treaty will mean much greater protection.

💧 The amount of sewage discharged into our waters by water companies is unacceptable.
✔️ To help tackle this, we have increased monitors installed in storm overflows from 10% in 2015 to almost 90% now, and we aim to reach 100% cover by the end of the year.
Congratulations @grantshapps on your appointment. Scaling up home-grown clean energy rapidly is a hugely complex and important task for the UK, and it makes sense to have a department focused on this priority. Good policy & buy-in from the centre of government are critical too.
⚡️ Our new Department for Energy Security & Net Zero led by @GrantShapps is focused on securing our long-term energy supply, bringing down bills and halving inflation 👇
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero will focus on giving the UK cheaper, cleaner, more secure sources of energy – cutting bills, cutting emissions, and cutting our dependence on international energy supplies, like those of Putin’s Russia.
The Rt Hon Grant Shapps @grantshapps
has been appointed Secretary of State in the newly created Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.
