Nigeria requires approximately $337 billion to implement its climate action commitments between 2026 and 2035, including mitigation and adaptation, necessitating international support, private investment and effective public financing.
Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, the Director-General (D-G), National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), said this at the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contribution 3.0 (NDC 3.0), the Net-Zero Investment Plan and Nigeria’s Long-Term Low-Emissions Development Strategy on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Abuja. https://t.co/Havtr9pwio via EnviroNews

With global temperature rise set to exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, urgent and stringent cuts to greenhouse emissions are needed to minimize the magnitude and duration of overshoot and return to 1.5°C by the end of the century, a new UNEP report finds.
The Emissions Gap Report 2026: The Point of Return looks at a ‘lowest possible’ 1.5°C overshoot scenario, in which peak warming by around the middle of the century is limited to 1.7-1.8°C and global temperature rise is returned to or below 1.5°C by 2100, with about a 50 per cent chance. https://t.co/Ki8c5l0XkV via EnviroNews
Environmental advocacy organisations, https://t.co/e8OLciV8kF and Climate Action Network (CAN), have called on world leaders to urgently strengthen climate commitments and accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels following the release of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) 2026 Emissions Gap Report.
The report, titled “The Point of Return”, released on Wednesday, October 21, warns that current climate policies and national emissions reduction pledges remain insufficient to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, with the world projected to experience approximately 2.6°C of warming by the end of the century under current trajectories. https://t.co/PT2fTaZ32r via EnviroNews
