Transfer portal explained using high school terms.

Imagine you had the opportunity to recruit kids from your local area to join your team.

You could choose an 8th grader who was pretty darn good or a junior stud, who has already played 2 years of high school ball. You've see his film, he has good grades, he's bigger, stronger, faster, proven himself.

Which player do you recruit? Obviously the sophomore.

Why take the risk on the untested, unproven 8th grader. You can keep you eye on him and recruit him in a couple years after he proves what he can do. You take the sophomore over him.

The portal has changed the recruiting landscape for graduating seniors, collegiate athletes, coaches at lower divisions trying keep their guys.

It's a new day.
