@nytopinion@fmanjoo Improve commutes? Here's an explainer video about an initiative for greener, cheaper, shorter, more active commutes for over half of British Columbia's workforce. https://t.co/cJ1F6zl4Zc
@nytopinion@fmanjoo dyk that Elon's brother Kimbal has jumped into the "opportunity" of improving commutes? He's an "advisor" (and presumably a backer too) of https://t.co/admBtxrYDG - a Colorado tech start-up that hopes to become the "data-driven" solution consultant for large corporations.
.@cafreeland, my only wish this holiday season is for the gvt to hold Canadian banks accountable for their investments in fossil fuel projects. They couldn't meet the UN net zero requirements so it's up to you to set regulations.
Can I count on you? @GreenpeaceCA#FossilBanks
@fabulavancouver You want data? YES!! Todd Litman & I’ve been doing R&D on commuting solutions for BC for 8 yrs. Email [email protected] for link to StatsCan dataset & tons more. Re: yr question about post-court ruling: minimal change cuz of systemic barriers (per district HR heads).
@fabulavancouver Thanks, Frances, for bringing up the concept of people commuting in BOTH DIRECTIONS. Much of this is unnecessary, wasteful & unfair. We analyzed 2011 StatsCan commuting flow data & found for example, there were over 17,500 teachers commuting needlessly far. Want that dataset?
@Eric_Doherty@georgiastraight@charliesmithvcr Thanks for the great article, Eric! Clearly we need to do everything possible ASAP to reduce trips and to change the modes, affordability and impacts of travel.
As you make clear we certainly don’t want to do things that induce more car trips.
.@RBC stop the bullshit. it's time to stop funding the violation of Indigenous rights and sovereignty. #DefundClimateChaos now. #RBCIsKillingMe

.@RBC: Thousands of people across Canada are calling on you to respect Indigenous rights and #DefundClimateChaos.
Bankrolling fossil fuel projects without consent, goes against your commitments on reconciliation. It is time to invest in the future. #RBCIsKillingMe#DivestCGL
@AJWVictoriaBC@JustinTrudeau@liberal_party Disappointed in you. You are so excited about "plans" and ignore the lack of "action." And are ignoring the bogus counter-actions such as buying TMX and supporting LNG, and delaying. Sad.
@Rob_Fleming@TranBC Hey Rob, I hope this means BC will soon announce a trip reduction program (as advocated by MetroVancouver’s Clean Air Plan) to more than compensate for the “induced demand.” Looking forward to meeting w you soon to discuss the innovative design of our trip reduction program. 👍👏🏻
Odd that trust in anyone’s hiring is being discussed. My understanding is that anyone with an appropriate degree is an almost-automatic hire in this teacher shortage. And once into the union, difficult to un-hire. (Not disparaging all the excellent teachers.)
Great morning read here from @zerocarbon: Canada is on fire. Why isn’t our politics? | Canada's National Observer: News & Analysis https://t.co/uUfJaXoicG
@glenhansman @MarcLeeCCPA @bcgeu Yes Glen every district exec I talked with + every union exec + every ministry official + BCPSEA head + MinisterEDU 100% AGREE this WILL NOT happen UNLESS ALL large BC employers are required to measure and MAKE BEST EFFORTS to reduce commutes. @glenhansman @MarcLeeCCPA @bcgeu
@MarcLeeCCPA @bcgeu Thanks, Marc, for your optimism. I've interviewed leaders of 7 school districts, BCTF & BCPSEA + 5 cabinet ministers + executives at health authorities & banks. The clear consensus: this will only happen when trip reduction becomes mandatory 4 all public & private organizations.
