Hello World (& fellow lurkers)!
My name's Mohammed (Mo) - I'm a RE broker in NYC.
I've worked on multimillion $ deals that I've closed with my eyes shut, and deals < $100k that kept me up at night. I share the jokes and memes that grow in this spread - and a few life observations a long the way.
When I'm not yapping about real estate or shitposting on twitter (X ?) you can find me:
- Being mom's 3rd fav child (not last woohoo)
- Hanging out with the kiddos that make me a funcle!
- Self-reflecting on life via substack (TheMadHatter)
- Scuba diving in random bodies of water
- At the gym
- Scaring my wife while I'm riding ๐๏ธโ๏ธ
Biz lesson learnt
Sometimes you have to be the bigger jerk to keep the deal moving
Some ppl just don't respond to anything but negative pressure
Learning to shift gears back to normal is the muscle I'm still working on
I am like water. Nice to me, nice to you :$
On a transaction (sell side) where buyers tried to negotiate to install more floor joists/beams
The property has passed all inspections and has a CO
I lost all credibility for the agents who decided to ask us for it because they don't know how to tell their clients No
Know when to eat a loss for the sake of a relationship
Losing a few $ to start/maintain a long term rltnshp is worth the ROI
If I have an ongoing rltnshp with a vendor and they nickel and dime me (or my clients) then adios

"Which way does business flow?"
Broker in my office lost two deals at the deadline late yesterday that would have been $1.2mm in commissions to him.
He was at the office at 8AM this mrng, on the phone working on other deals.
That is tenacity.
