Medical graduates spend years in med school, take on massive debt, and go through the Match process competing for a limited number of residency spots.

So why does @IndianaUniv have “Notice of Intent to Hire H-1B / E-3 Employee” listings for Medical Residents across IU hospitals?

Residency training is already a bottleneck. So what’s the rationale behind sponsoring visas for these positions instead of prioritizing U.S. graduates who are also competing for them?

Secretary of State Marco Rubio's State Department has dismantled organized "birth tourism" networks across West Africa, North Africa and Europe, revoking hundreds of visitor visas tied to schemes that helped pregnant foreign nationals enter the United States to give birth and secure automatic citizenship for their children.
The department detailed more than 600 cases in a June 10 series of posts on X, framing the enforcement push as a defense of the "integrity of U.S. citizenship" against foreigners obtaining visitor visas for the primary purpose of childbirth.
A U.S. Embassy in West Africa uncovered a network of more than 100 foreign nationals using fraudulent documents and visa "fixers"; a U.S. Embassy in North Africa revoked more than 100 additional visas issued to parents who traveled chiefly to deliver in the U.S.

A University of California CIO and a visa staffing company owner recently pleaded guilty in an H-1B fraud scheme.

According to DOJ, they claimed foreign workers would be assigned to University of California projects that didn't exist. The university's name and the CIO's title were used to make the petitions appear legitimate, even though the CIO didn't have authority to hire H-1B workers on his own.

Once the visa was approved, the workers could be marketed and placed with other clients for profit. In other words, the visa itself became the product. That's what makes these cases important. They show how the immigration system can be exploited to create a labor brokerage business: secure the visa first, then find someone willing to pay for the worker later.

DOJ says the scheme gave the defendants an unfair competitive advantage while consuming H-1B visas intended for legitimate employers with legitimate jobs.. but when fraud becomes a competitive advantage, the people being undercut aren't other companies, they're American workers.
