Toronto Raptors guard Jamal Shead has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension with the franchise, his agent KJ Smith tells ESPN. The new deal keeps Shead under contract through the 2029-30 season.
You can say this was Brown’s fault. No matter how many people told him to ignore the media, it seemed like he bought into the “Brown vs. Tatum” narrative. It’s sad because he won a championship and a Finals MVP, yet it still didn’t seem to be enough. He wanted to prove he could lead his own team.
We’ve seen similar situations before. People pointed to Kyrie Irving leaving Cleveland Cavaliers after years of discussion about it being LeBron James’s team. Whether fair or not, media narratives can affect players. Sometimes those storylines create egos, divide great duos, and end up changing the direction of a franchise. If that’s what happened here ( which it did ) I think Jaylen Brown was never going to let the comparisons with Jayson Tatum go.
