#Birds are not only fascinating creatures, but they also serve as important indicators of the overall health of #ecosystems. It is crucial to conserve the stopover areas, including wetlands, shorelines, and feeding grounds, to ensure the survival of migratory bird populations.
This rare bird has been spotted for the second time in Akagera, following previous sightings last year. While you are having your coffee or lunch at the park reception, look around for the African pitta around the bushes at reception.
The African Pitta is back!
Recently our guests have been lucky to sport this rare migratory bird at our park reception in the south of the park. The African pitta is known to migrate through Rwanda, travelling between southeastern Africa and the Congo Basin.

@2wsphotography@nyandungupark Just read in NT your article "The Birds that call Rwanda Home" . Fascinating and disturbing too. I didn't know Rwanda was doing so much to save endemic species, inter alia.🙏🙏👏👏👏 A good example to follow around the world! I don't think this is the case, alas😔
Really happy that a paper I co-authored with Jeff Marks (and my photographs) have been peer-reviewed and published. It discusses a case of Grosbeak Weaver predation @nyandungupark . #Rwanda#RwOT#Kigali

Rwanda stands out as a great destination for birders because of the sheer variety of bird habitats. These range from mountains, montane forests, grasslands, plains, vast swamps, rivers, lakes and off course the rolling hills. Rwanda has good road networks with safe and clean town
