Boston has acquired picks 104 and 157 from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Andre Gasseau and the 120th overall pick.

Gasseau had been mentioned in trade talks and today the trigger was pulled.

Pretty much every player on the roster besides Contreras and Abreu have played some role in this offensive disaster, yet 3 in particular have really stand out:

1. The decision to trade for Caleb Durbin was catastrophic regardless of how Kyle Harrison pitched in Milwaukee. They needed a second right handed power bat alongside Contreras, and instead they got a glove-first utility man who didn’t hit his first home run of a pitcher until June. It was either a tremendous misevaluation of talent or a lack of understanding about the weakness of the roster

2. It’s hard to understate how hampering it is to have a DH slugging .330 with 1 home run. Yoshidas presence in the lineup has not only added another feeble hitter in the mix but served as a roadblock for any other move for an actual power hitter

3. Marcelo Mayer hasn’t been good enough. It’s one thing if he was striking out but still flashing power like he did last year, but the amount of weak contact he is making is startling. He needs to be better

It’s like an unending purgatory! Fenway is full, people go to games, FSG makes money. Rinse and repeat. There is NO reason for the FSG to field a good team because why would they? They’re making plenty of money. What’s crazy is they rank 6th in the league for payroll! I mean why bother spending the money of it’s just going to be on subpar talent? Just go full small market! It’s hard to quit the Red Sox but nothing short of hitting FSG in the pocket is going to force any change.
