Today, the New Jersey Reentry Corporation joined University Hospital for an urgent H.R. 1 Medicaid Compliance Conference focused on protecting healthcare coverage.
330,000 New Jerseyans could lose Medicaid, while 47,000 may loose SNAP in any month. The conference addressed exemptions, community-engagement requirements, documentation, automated verification, and the significant barriers facing returning citizens, veterans, individuals in recovery, and people with serious health conditions.
NJRC is developing an 80-hour workforce-readiness and digital-literacy program with credential-based instruction and verifiable attendance to help eligible participants satisfy Medicaid and SNAP requirements.
We are grateful to University Hospital and to all of our honored guests, including Senate Majority Leader @SenMTeresaRuiz, Senator @SenJoeVitale (Chair, Health & Human Services), @SpeakerCoughlin, @NJDHS Commissioner Dr. Stephen Cha, Assistant Commissioner Greg Woods, Deputy Commissioner Valerie Mielke, and our co-host and sponsor, @UnivHospNewark President Carole Johnson.
Coordinated action, documented exemptions, qualifying community-engagement hours, and reliable verification can prevent eligible residents from losing essential benefits because of administrative barriers.

The best prevention of eligible people losing Medicaid coverage would be for Congress to repeal H.R. 1. But until that's a reality, Human Services is working hard to improve our systems and engage with partners to mitigate harm to New Jersey.
.@NJDHS leaders joined Assembly Majority Leader @LouGreenwald to visit Weisman Children’s to learn more about the organization’s work supporting children and families through specialized, community-based healthcare services.

NJ could lose up to $6B under HR1, which slashes Medicaid & SNAP. I’ll keep pushing for repeal, but we must also adapt and protect families. See our latest analysis of funding losses and families affected. Read the report now: https://t.co/Np2durD5WS
