Anoche, en Jersey City, me reuní con familias que tienen a sus seres queridos detenidos allí. Lo que escuché solo profundizó mis preocupaciones.

En esa reunión las familias compartieron las desgarradoras condiciones inhumanas e inconstitucionales: relatos sobre detenidos a quienes se les niega acceso a atención médica y medicamentos, violencia e intimidación, amenazas de perder el acceso telefónico y por video, eliminar el privilegio de visita, y testimonios profundamente perturbadores sobre detenidos presionados a firmar documentos de deportación sin traducción.

Toda persona se merece un trato digno. Todos tienen derecho al debido proceso. Y toda familia merece poder ver y abogar por sus seres queridos.

Seguiré luchando por la rendición de cuentas, la transparencia y mejores condiciones en Delaney Hall. Los detenidos han solicitado reunirse conmigo, y quiero reunirme con ellos.

Continuaremos apoyando a estas familias, líderes religiosos, defensores y a quienes se manifiestan de manera pacífica mientras trabajamos para cerrar Delaney Hall.

ICE is denying me entry to Delaney Hall – raising serious questions about what is happening behind its walls.

Last night in Jersey City, I met with families whose loved ones are being detained there. What I heard only deepened my concerns.

Families shared heartbreaking reports of unsafe, inhumane, and unconstitutional conditions – detainees being denied access to proper medical care and medication, violence and intimidation, threats of losing phone and video access, visitation privileges being taken away, and deeply troubling accounts of detainees being pressured to sign deportation papers with no translation.

Every person deserves to be treated with dignity. Everyone is entitled to due process. And every family deserves the ability to see and advocate for their loved ones.

I will continue fighting for accountability, transparency, and better conditions at Delaney Hall. The detainees have requested to meet with me and I want to meet with them.

We will continue standing with these families, faith leaders, advocates, and peaceful protesters as we work toward the ultimate goal of closing Delaney Hall.
