Just got off the phone with Amari Whiting. I'll have something out tomorrow on everything we talked about...
What does she want to get out of her senior year?
"I want to win"
Another GREAT game for Amari Whiting
10 Points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, just 1 turnover. If Wooten is the best "bench" player in the County, Whiting HAS to be the best "I KNOW MY ROLE" player in the country, and she plays it just about to perfection.
In fact, for what she's asked to do, I personally think she is the most efficient in terms of executing, because she just always makes the right play, and rarely makes a mistake. And, when she does make a mistake, it's almost always in an effort to make the right play.
If you've ever coached a team where the season is fairly lengthy, you come to appreciate these types of players to no end. It's not a surprise she was taught how to impact a game, a season, and a team by a coach, her mom, and a professional player, her dad.
The nitty-gritty of what she does is a great compliment to how she grew up around the game. #gopokes #okstate
Amari Whiting saved her best for last! She didn't score until very late in the 3rd quarter, then poured it on, and made several HUGE plays in the 4th to help the Cowgirls pull away. Clutch performance on the road in a very hostile environment. #gopokes#okstate
9 PTS
2 Steals
3 Assists
1 Turnover
4-6 FG
The Cowgirls beat Iowa State on the road tonight, 88-77. Iowa State got out to a 13-point lead before OSU got things going. Well, actually, that's when Staillee Heard got things going.
Both Heard and Akot had double-doubles, and Gray had a couple of huge shots, and Amari Whiting was the most valuable player of the 4th quarter.
OSU outscored Iowa St. in 2nd chance points, bench points, points in the paint, fast break points, and in free throws, and in most of those statistics, it was by a wide margin. The Cyclones pushed back several times, but each time they did, OSU came up with an answer to gain control of the game.
This is a huge game. One, it's a road game, and that's been tricky for this team. And, the Cowgirls hadn't lost back-to-back games all year, and this win keeps that stat intact. And, also, they just didn't play well this weekend at West Virginia, so it feels good to bounce back.
Next up is the final regular season game of the season when the Cowgirls host Kansas at 5:00 Saturday Evening inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. #gopokes #okstate
Amari Whiting had a double/double on Saturday.
13 Pts
11 Boards
3 Assists
1 Block
2 Steals
It's always fun to see someone get rewarded in the stat sheet that does all the "glue" type stuff for a team. Whiting can shoot, she can slash, she can dish, and most importantly, IMO, she just keeps this team organized when possessions start to go sideways.
She's truly a coach on the court, by the way she organizes certain parts of games for this team. She has scored in double digits in 3 games in a row and is averaging 14.6 per game in that stretch. #gopokes #okstate
You know she had to double it 🫨
@amari_whiting in her 2nd double-double of the season:
🔸 13 points
🔸 11 rebounds
🔸 3 assists
🔸 2 steals
🔸 COWGIRL W!
