Don’t confuse your role with your value.
Championship players don’t count minutes; they make their minutes count.
A good teammate will never be defined by their role.
A good teammate will be defined by their willingness to excel in that role.
Dick Vermeil shares the greatest lesson he learned on leadership from John Wooden.
"Don't worry about those players you don't have. Just make sure you do a great job of making those who you have the best they could possibly be.'"
Simple advice, but not always easy.
Be where your feet are. Don't focus on what you're missing - pour into who's already in the room.
Stop chasing what you don't have.
Develop what you do have.

Dusty May said, "A lot of failure comes with simply being afraid of the results. We were never afraid of the results."
Let go of the outcomes and focus on what you can control.
• Trust in yourself.
• Trust in your preparation.
• Trust in show up and doing the work
Everyone wants the credit.
Few want the mirror.
“We need to look at ourselves when we have failure and point to other people when we have success.”
- Marcus Freeman
That’s real leadership.👇
@CoachTatum90 1. 1st step (right & left) hands loaded, ready to strike. 3 reps each way.
2. 2 step with punch. Drive out on the 3rd rep.
3. Offset the board (right & left) 2 step with punch. Drive out on 3rd rep.
4. Double teams
@CoachShiffman A4. Give me 5 average dudes with elite communication that are dependable, fast off the ball, and violent. “No chemistry” could imply can’t/won’t communicate and could also imply 5 “individuals.” Offensive line has to be 1 unit, to have long term success. #hogfbchat
@CoachShiffman A2. Need a simple set of rules. The rules dictate where the double teams come from and who has to solo. You can’t rep the rules enough! #hogfbchat
@CoachDingus A1. Ball get off. If we are slow off the ball, none of the other stuff matters. Perfect technique, but slow off the ball still gets beat. Can’t reset the LOS #hogfbchat

📚 Best Nuggets From Coaching Books
This one comes from Win Forever by Pete Carroll.
Before I read it, I thought of “culture” as slogans and standards. But Carroll’s book showed me it’s something much deeper — a system.
Carroll didn’t just talk about culture — he installed it. Every meeting, every drill, every phrase connected back to his philosophy: Always Compete.
That changed how I approached culture myself. You wouldn’t run a defense without an install plan, and you can’t build culture without one either.
Carroll’s culture was summarized in his “Win Forever” pyramid — a model for maximizing potential — starting from environment and belief system all the way up to performance goals. It’s not abstract motivation. It’s architecture.
That idea reshaped how I thought about building culture.
Even Steve Kerr has said Carroll’s framework helped him shape the Warriors’ culture.
I’ve attached my own Culture Working Model below.
Curious — how do you build and structure culture in your program?
