Details matter — especially before the ball is snapped.

This DB Pedal Warm-Up Drill is designed to clean up speed transitions, body control, and discipline in the backpedal. It’s a staple we use to reinforce fundamentals before moving into competitive periods. From NFL to Flag football fundamentals matter, back pedal to cross over to high point and finish!!!

Coaching Emphasis:

✅ Head stays still during speed transitions

✅ Easy = slow pedal | Fast = full-speed pedal

✅ Open hips when coached — without drifting off the yard line

✅ Smooth, controlled speed changes (easy → fast)

🔵 Trap Coverage vs. Mesh Concepts

One of the biggest challenges defenses face is handling Mesh concepts that create natural rubs and horizontal stretch. In our Blue Coverage, the corners play a Sight Technique to eliminate easy completions and keep the defense fast and physical.

Key Coaching Points:

🏈 Corners – Sight on #2

The CB reads #2 immediately. If #2 works under or inside (typical in Mesh), the corner sights and replaces the coverage, cutting the route and preventing the quick throw.

🏈 Safeties – Weave Over #1

Safeties weave over the top of #1 to maintain leverage and protect against vertical shots off the Mesh action.

🏈 Hook Defenders – Wall & Cut to #2 or #3

Inside defenders collision and disrupt the crossers, slowing the Mesh timing and forcing the QB to hold the ball.

🏈 Fast & Physical Principle

The goal is simple: see it, trigger, and drive on the throw. Sight technique allows the corner to play aggressive without losing leverage.

Mesh wants rhythm and space.

Blue Coverage takes both away.
