Former South Mecklenburg girls' basketball star Katie Houpt is heading to the Final Four.
Houpt is a 5-11 senior on the Denison Big Red women's team that beat Washington and Lee, 77-64, in the NCAA Division III sectional final.
Houpt and the Big Red (28-2) will play No. 2 overall seed Wisconsin-Oshkosh (28-3) in the national semifinals on Thursday at Roanoke (VA) College at 5 p.m.
Denison started the season 17-0 and has set a program-record for wins.
Houpt was a key player for South Meck's 21-4 team in the 2021-22 season when she averaged 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds.
