Teaching Tape - On Ball Physicality - Game WIthin the Game
Spurs/Wolves is arguably the most physical defensive series in the playoffs. The little details and counters the ball handlers are using to combat the on ball defense against drop coverages have been fun to watch.
Ant Edwards - 2 hurt knees, lack of burst. Using his physical frame more to keep defenders on his hip/back
McDaniels - Using his size/length to slither through spaces and get back to his sweet spots around the elbows
Fox - Using change of speeds/hostage to get back inside to his pullups
Castle - Using slight hesitations downhill to look for Wemby or lobs or finish at the rim.

Overprotected kids become unprepared adults.
Dawn Staley said it.
And every parent needs to hear it.
Here's what parents get wrong about raising resilient kids.

In 30+ years of coaching and school leadership…
I’ve learned this:
Parent problems don’t start in conversations. They start in the absence of clarity.
Fix that… and everything changes.

Coaches who only correct never connect.
“Negative experiences without teaching kill morale.” - Nick Saban
The hard moment isn’t the problem.
Leaving it without a lesson is.
That’s what transformational coaching actually looks like.
Kobe on Leadership:
"Leadership is Lonely. If you are going to be a leader, you are not going to please everybody. You have to hold people accountable. Even if you have that moment of being uncomfortable."
The parent who emails after every loss isn’t worried about their kid.
They’re worried about themselves.
I rarely got them.
But I watched them hurt other coaches…

Everyone wants the credit.
Few want the mirror.
“We need to look at ourselves when we have failure and point to other people when we have success.”
- Marcus Freeman
That’s real leadership.👇
Leadership isn’t always loud.
It’s a difficult conversation.
A hard truth.
A standard that has to be upheld.
“You’re not always going to be the most popular…” - Carla Overbeck
But great leaders don’t lead for approval.
They lead for the team.
Championship teams don’t get lucky.
They take their vitamins.
Attitude. Belief. Commitment. Discipline. Energy. Focus. Grit. Humility.
Simple. Not easy.
Which one does your team need most right now?
Mark Daigneault shares the coaching philosophy that drives the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"Every player is different. And every player is a person first. I've always relied on the instincts of connecting with the person first "
Then he shared what professional basketball taught him:
"All of these players have a reason to admire them and not just respect them. That's a baseline for any player."
"If a player's made it this far, there's a reason to admire them."
It means caring about the person.
"Expressing that admiration, accepting them for who they are, and then trying to help them be the best they can be. Chase down the vision they have for who they are as a player."
"But also plug that into the larger structure of a team in an environment that elevates everybody."
The best coaches don't just manage players. They see the person behind the jersey and the team.
"It starts with every person. Every person's different - connecting to that and tapping into that."
Great coaches care about the person and their future
The heart of coaching is a relationships business not a sports business
