Food for thought.
Right handed throwing high school first baseman.
If you're not athletic enough to play third base or the outfield if needed.
You won't be athletic enough to play first base in college.
Right handed throwing college first basemen weren't usually first basemen in high school.
They were shortstops and third baseman.
Players that love the game don't get burned out.
They embrace the process, the work and the required resilience.
The baseball novice loves to say, a kid quit playing because they got burned out.
Wrong, they quit playing because they didn't love the game.
It's OK, and allows the kid to find something he is passionate about, that he genuinely enjoys.
Baseball becomes a waste of time for kids that don't want to be great at it.
Chasing greatness in anything is honorable, it doesn't have to be the game of baseball.
When I hear a player isn’t playing fall baseball, I genuinely question how much he enjoys playing baseball. And I can’t help but question who’s giving him that advice. If you want to get better at playing baseball, play baseball. A few exceptions: football, arm injury issues, young kids, etc. College baseball players play fall, spring and summer. Again, there’s exceptions, but I’m hearing WAY TOO many stories about kids “taking the fall off to train”. You SHOULD be training and getting stronger AND playing. It’s not an either/or situation.
