Coach Cal’s right — administration matters. But at the high school level, it takes more than that.

You need administration that believes in you, coaches/players that are all in, parents that get involved in program, and a community that doesn’t just cheer on Friday nights… but financially supports the program too.

Great high school programs aren’t built by one person. They’re built when everybody is invested — with their time, their trust, and their resources.

If everybody isn’t rowing the boat in the same direction, don’t complain when the whole thing ends up spinning in circles.

@TerryBattenberg These are inportant but I would say the #1 reason teams struggle versus pressure is the players are not overall skilled at passing, dribble and making the decision of when to pass and dribblle. Skill is far more important than tactics.

@Hoopss What is the point of your comment? I am 43 and not close to being in great shape like LeBron, but have many old injuries from my playing career that are now arthritic (could never play again) and I lift regularly using a a bar in a similar manner without any issues.

Teachers get a bad rap.
People love to point to the few who should not be in the classroom.
But let’s be real. Every profession has them.
But the truth is the majority of teachers give more and care more about your child than anyone outside the family.
They are the ones who notice the quiet kid who stopped talking.
The child who eats lunch alone.
The student who hides hurt with laughter.
The one who acts out because they don’t know how to ask for help.
Teachers are the adults who stay after school to talk.
Who buy snacks with their own money.
Who show up for games and concerts.
Who carry the emotional weight of a hundred children every single day.
One caring adult can change a life.
And for millions of kids, that adult is a teacher.
And here is the part we forget most.
For many of you, if you took a moment to reflect, you remember that teacher or teachers yourself.
Someone who saw you.
Someone who believed in you.
Someone who changed your life in ways you still carry.
If more people understood what teachers pour into students, we would spend less time criticizing and a lot more time appreciating them for the impact they have on the lives of so many.

@WinczewskiDean I played for a coach who was a huge bully in high school. He did everything he could to take my confidence and make me feel less than as a player. I responded by playing 5 years at the college level and coaching for 20 + years. You have to own your own confidence!

Over 90% of Finnish teachers remain in education for their entire careers.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., we struggle to keep 90% through the first year.
What’s the difference?
🇫🇮 Finnish teachers teach about 50% fewer hours—the rest is dedicated to planning, collaboration, and reflection.
🇫🇮 Students have multiple recesses daily to support behavior, focus, and well-being.
🇫🇮 Teachers are given autonomy at the school level, not micromanaged by endless mandates.
🇫🇮 There are limited evaluations—but unlimited trust in educators as professionals.
Until we start treating teachers like professionals, we’ll keep losing them and spending over $8 Billion a year replacing them.

@mustbenyhus @FixingEducation I disagree as I have taught in 5 different schools and every single one of them made the parent an active participant in their child’s learning. Any relevant issues in the classroom were communicated by teachers and administrators to the parents.

@TheHoopPlatform @Coaching_U Cutters are open half of the time? I don’t know what defences you have seen offense run against but not high level ones. Coach Stackhouse is a great coach who knows what he is talking about. Movement(ball/player) and spacing are the most inportant aspects of offence.

Schools exist to support families, not replace parents.

That means parents need to actually parent, and the govt & communities need to stop treating schools as the fix for bad parenting.

If you’re an educator who thinks otherwise, you’ve watched too many teacher hero movies.
