Just something for Coaches and parents to ponder. If you take a look at the numbers it takes to get through the rounds, they paint a great picture of what recruiting standards are and have moved to.
I did a little research
Some of these “recruiting sites” are charging anywhere from $300 to $3000) per year pending on the “service” they offer.
Do not waste your money.
1. Your performances and your grades will get attention
2. Be realistic about where your market value is or isn’t when it comes to your performances and grades.
3. Do your research. Look at what is making conference finals and scoring points. The bigger the profile the school has, look at the ncaa meet.
4. Do not assume anything. Just because a school doesn’t have a finalist doesn’t mean they are investing in that event or the people in that event.
5. T&F is a production game not just a potential game. Everyone has potential. Not everyone will do what it takes to produce.
6. It doesn’t matter how these sites present your videos and profiles, if your performances can’t help that school you’ve targeted, the probability is low they will invest in you. If your grades are bad, the probability drops lower.
7. Everything these sites say they do, you can do on your phone. You can send that same video you sent to the “service” to coaches along with your transcripts and your profile on https://t.co/puW0jiXxXP or https://t.co/8FZJmqoXgu
8. Email an AD or president is not going to get you an athletic scholarship if your performances/grades don’t help the program in the postseason (or at least within reason). Those entities are just going to send it to the HC for evaluation.
8. In most cases, no response is your answer about that school. You want attention, level up and make sure your grades are in order.
9. Some schools are still using standardized tests for academic aid. Coaches do not have any influence on money they don’t control.
10. I’ll say it again. T&F is NOT a back door to Football. I don’t know any T&F coach that is going to invest $$$ into an athlete that will not be at practice all fall, run indoors, disappear for spring ball, and come back the last few weeks of outdoor. You better be super elite for that conference for that to happen
11. Just like you don’t need to waste money on recruiting sites, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE STREET TEAM. Anyone promising your child or you a scholarship that is not within the coaching staff of that program, can not help you or represent any decisions made by the head coach. Go to the source.
12. Coaches are not trying to disrespect you. We are in the most honest sport. You may not like our delivery of the truth, but we will tell you the truth…in most cases. If your performances can help or at least within reason, you may have an opportunity.
The people that did get scholarships could have gotten them at those schools by doing the following:
Go to https://t.co/FvgAeD9D8T Look at the lists, look at the conference/national championship results, send updated transcripts, contact info, meet results, and meet videos to head coaches and assistant coaches. All that can be done on your phone or laptop for FAR less (also known as Free) than these sites are offering you.
Don’t try to butter us up, we read right past that yada yada. Get to the meat of it all. Ask good questions.
And for the Love of God
Don’t demand anything.
That’s all I have for you today. I just don’t want to see you get scammed.
Im on the 'you were warned' side also.
That puts it on the coach to make sure his athletes know not to do anything that could even be construed as taunting.
Head down-finish the race-celebrate after.
Him holding up 5 was taunting everyone behind him.
Not much judgement needed to make that call.
It sucks, but also a teaching moment. The coach's excuse "other teams were doing it" is not teaching his kids anything other than to blame someone else and that was my biggest issue in the whole thing.

🚨ATHLETES🚨
As your coach…
I believe in you more than you realize.
I know where and how far you can go.
I know what needs to be done, I’ve mapped out the plan and believe it all can work out.
HOWEVER…
I CANNOT help you, unless YOU want to help you!
Being a good person is more important than being a good athlete. When all is said and done, you’ll be remembered more by your character than your athletic accomplishments.
The kids who come to college used to being motivated by mom, dad, or coach often don’t make it. That motivation works in the short term, but it quickly fades.
To be successful over the long haul, we all need motivation that comes from deep within.
Public Service Announcement
If your son was dismissed from his high school team for missing the teams spring break tournament, to go on vacation (beach trip, etc.).
Or
Your son isn't getting playing time because he missed the spring break tournament for vacation.
Do this.
Call the school's athletic director or principal and request a meeting.
Tell them it's important.
At the meeting, tell them how much you appreciate the coach caring enough about your son to teach him about life, and how much you appreciate him holding your son accountable.
Then thank them for hiring a coach that cared about commitment, sacrifice and teaching the kids that being a great teammate comes with responsibilities.
Then suggest they give the coach a raise, shake their hands and reiterate how much you appreciate them.
🚨TRACK ATHLETES🚨
Especially field event and hurdlers…
Watch the pros and see what GREAT looks like.
I’m saying try to copy… a lot can make those things look easy bc of their athleticism…
But just study as much as possible and try to apply the concepts to yourself!
🚨REMEMBER🚨
Improving speed can be simple, but not linear.
It takes time and lots of changes to get faster.
Habits, mechanics, strength, etc.
Some weeks you’re fast, others you’re slow.
It’s to be expected.
Don’t rush the process.
You can’t skip the struggle. Adversity will come.
That’s how you grow.
That’s where confidence is built.
The process is the prize.
Too many try to avoid the hard parts.
1. Accept the struggle.
2. Embrace the struggle.
3. Overcome the struggle.
It’s hard when you’re the athlete who isn’t getting to play. Sitting on the sidelines is no one’s favorite place. But what will you do about it? Complain? Whine? Be angry? Or compete, be focused & determined? One way leads to regret. The other equals reflection, respect & reward!
Leadership is Easy, Until…
Until you have to hold someone accountable.
Until you face criticism for doing the right thing.
Until you have to make a tough decision with no easy answer.
Until you take the blame for a mistake you didn’t make.
Until you have to lead people who don’t want to be led.
Until you’re expected to stay calm when everything is falling apart.
Until you have to sacrifice for the good of the team.
Leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about showing up when it’s hard.
That’s when real leaders stand out.
Choose to lead.
