Coaches of significance have a high “care level”…They are able to define great effort & great attitude clearly, model it with their own behavior & be willing to hold everyone accountable through love. Players respond with their own high care level & then watch the magic happen.
One of the most underrated offensive concepts in basketball is “advantage preservation.” Creating an advantage is hard. Maintaining it is even harder.
Bad teams get a paint touch then settle immediately. Elite teams continue forcing rotations until the defense breaks completely. Extra passes, re-screens, slot exchanges, drift movement, and quick decisions keep defenders in constant conflict.
GREAT offenses are designed to stress defensive communication over and over within the same possession. Eventually someone misses a tag, blows a switch, or rotates late. That’s where efficient offense is created.
Development in basketball comes in many forms and not necessarily just wins. The growth is better habits, confidence, improved decision making, stronger teamwork, and learning how to compete the right way. Winning is important, but development is what creates longterm success.
Attention AAU and high school basketball players: As you head into the summer, play the game to improve, but more importantly, play the game for the right reasons: strengthen the relationships with your coaches and teammates and have fun while you honor the game.

June tells coaches who you really are.
Not just as a player.
As a teammate.
A leader.
A competitor.
Body language, communication, coachability, consistency, energy…
College and HS coaches are watching ALL of it.
Unpopular opinion…
AAU doesn’t need to lead to college basketball to be worth it.
For a lot of players today, it’s simply part of becoming competitive enough to play varsity basketball.
Not every player is chasing a Division I scholarship. Some are chasing a varsity roster spot. Some want to make the rotation. Some want to help their high school team win. Some just love the game.
And that’s enough!
I think we’ve become too obsessed with using college basketball as the scoreboard for whether a player’s journey was worth it.
What if they never play another organized game after high school?
If they loved the practices… loved the tournaments… loved the road trips… loved the teammates… loved competing…
Wasn’t that valuable too?
Not every basketball journey has to end with a scholarship to be a success.
Sometimes success is simply getting better, building friendships, making memories, learning life lessons, and squeezing EVERY DROP out of a game you love.
If you’re playing on Court 1 or Court 37, play hard.
The love of the game doesn’t care what division you’re headed to.

Keep being solid. Keep being genuine. The right people will recognize your value, and the life you build with integrity will always outlast the attention earned without it. 🌱
In a world where most people only value what they can gain from you, never let that change who you are. Integrity may not always get applause, and low character may seem rewarded for a season, but shortcuts expire. Character does not.
