Becky Hammon said, "Being resilient is both a character trait and a learned skill. The tough part is - you only develop it by going through hard stuff."
There's no shortcut - everyone wants to be the person who can handle adversity.
But few are willing to embrace the adversity that builds that capacity.
Tom Brady: “You need coaches that push you outside your comfort zone because that’s how you grow and that’s how you develop self confidence and self esteem. They push you to deal with failure.”
"Bad habits have a cost.
Good habits have a price.
Either way you have to pay.
The meaningful things- we pay for before.
The foolish things- we pay for after."
Winners pay upfront (sacrifice, effort, discipline).
Everyone else pays later (regret).
That’s the difference.
Draymond shows Steve Kerr some love
"There's several times this year where I thought about quitting and each time, he'd just say the right thing to relight that fire and make you wanna go again...the way you get amazed by Steph Curry's shots or the way some is amazed by my defense, is how I get amazed by his coaching when all the money is on the line.”
"They have bought in and been okay with the hard and now the hard is not hard.
I hope that will carry over for the rest of the season and the rest of their lives- that they can handle hard things.
If that's what becomes of them, then it will be a good coaching job by all of us."
Mike Vrabel on the most important thing he's learned about building a culture in the NFL.
"I've learned that we can have different personalities. We can't have different mentalities."
Strong cultures don’t ask people to be the same. They ask people to commit to the same standards and non-negotiables.

MARCUS FREEMAN IS THE NEXT GREAT #NFL HEAD COACH.
“People outside of here? ND is 0-2. Offense is great. the defense sucks. It's one person's fault. Buchner it's your fault, Drake it's your fault, it's Freeman's fault. It's every person in this rooms fault”https://t.co/ioiP8Of3KT
It's difficult for a team to become something its coach is not.
“As a coach, you can’t just wear the sweatshirt, you have to sweat too. You got to do the work." -- Tara VanDerveer
Culture is built through what a coach models just as much (if not more) than the messages they give.
If you want a team that handles adversity, you show them what poise looks like.
If you want a team that embraces feedback, you show them you’re actively learning and open to growth too.
Culture doesn’t start with players. It starts with the leader.

Great coaches are truth tellers.
“When you experience failure you have two options. You can either tell yourself the truth or you can lie to yourself.”

Fascinating insights from Marcelo Bielsa on how much a player runs is the ultimate expression of their enthusiasm.
