Here we go!! You guys asked for it, now you're going to get it.......
It's time to slam the door shut on this false narrative surrounding the defense of Luka Doncic, in the 2024 NBA Finals.
Despite me citing numerous metrics to debunk that narrative, numerous Boston fans found themselves once again propping up their argument with their favorite new stat, the 'blow by %'. Whether it be disingenuous intentions, or just plain old cognitive dissonance brought on by gaslighting from the National Media, it's anyone's best guess.
Some sleuthing from one user easily discovered that (as we already knew) 'blow by %' isn't even an official statistic, that is tracked by the NBA.
Since they weren't convinced by every primary defensive metric didn't convince them, let's do a Luka Doncic vs Jayson Tatum statistical comparison. Since many Boston fans were so vocal about Tatum being a far better defender.
First, when defending Mavs opponents in the NBA Finals, his opponents went 37-65 (57%FG). Compare that to Luka Doncic, who held Boston to 39-96 (40%FG). Anyway, you try to slice it, that's a massive difference.
Moving on now, let's use a broader example, and look at each players individual isolation, post, and spot up defense through the playoffs.
Luka Doncic vs Jayson Tatum (winner is in bold)
Isolation defense: 0.66ppp vs 0.90ppp
Post defense: 0.93ppp vs 1.00ppp
Spot Up defense: 0.74ppp vs 1.23
If you're keeping track thus far, that's a clean sweep for #77. Now, since the media, and many Boston fans have falsely claimed that Luka Doncic isn't giving effort (without backing it up), let's look at the effort/hustle stats.
Luka Doncic vs Jayson Tatum (winner is in bold)
Steals: 41 vs 20
Blocks: 8 vs 13
Deflections: 70 vs 29
While Tatum finally has an edge (blocks), he is more than doubled in steals & deflections. Not bad for Luka Doncic, since he isn't giving any effort out there, right??
I was forced to do this, as it was many Boston fans who kept bringing up the comparison. Now I am sure many of you will deflect with the usual blow by %, they hunted him, etc. nonsense. that you usually do, but these are the actual statistics tracked by the NBA to measure an individual defensive performance.
Lastly, I will close with this, our entire point is that it never was the defense of the Mavs, that caused them to lose the series, as Boston was held to 100ppg. (20 below their avg.), and it definitely wasn't Luka Doncic individual defense, as the Mavs had their best defensive rating with him on the court, at 106 (which would've ranked #1 in the entire NBA), which was the highest for any Mavs starter. Boston was the better team, and they played elite defense holding Mavs role players to just 8%3PT in the first 3 games, giving Boston an insurmountable 3-0 lead.
The fact of the matter is that none of your blow by's produced results. You can blow by everyone, but if you aren't scoring, IT DOES NOT MATTER. So, if Luka Doncic is a terrible defender who gives no effort, I'd like to know your thoughts on Jayson Tatum.
Class is dismissed.......

Who wants to get callused and numb?
What happens is that your heart gets bigger for the work you’re doing and the opinions of others start seeming smaller in comparison to the size of your joy.

Caitlin Clark gets called a b*tch then decked by Chicago guard, Chennedy Carter, away from the ball.
Does Caitlin need to toughen up, or are the women out to get her- What y’all think?
Love SGA, he’s special. But Mavs are playing him 1-on-1 and he’s winning some / losing some. Whereas, Luka is playing hurt and the Thunder defense is still collapsing on him WITHOUT fail.
Either Daigneault respects Luka more than Kidd respects SGA or the gap is bigger than most think.
You can keep switching up on him every other game, but you’re wasting your time whining under our posts where we are standing behind our best player.
We support him when he’s feeling good, and when he’s hurt. For better, or worse, Luka Doncic is our guy.
Get over it.
