I love this. I also want to give a little advice to other coaches recruiting transfers. I used to recruit transfers at Kentucky Wesleyan before Transfer portal existed.
We would call the other staffs explicitly looking for character eval, work ethic, things hard to see on film.
Coaches would lie all the time (not saying Coach shulman would, just in general) but you know who never did.
Strength Coaches
Call the strength coach and all of those guys are no nonsense, no BS guys that tell you how crazy a dude is or how hard he works. Always honest.
My advice is to call the strength coaches
Coaches - with the portal opening up tomorrow, feel free to hit me about our players who are leaving. I did Juco and AAU for 27 years, so I know how the game goes. Also, if we are interested in one of your players, we will hit you up as well
I’m not even a big big racing fan but it always hits you in the feels when one of the greats at their sport is gone too soon. Doesn’t matter the sport it’s easy to see the passion and know that person will be missed by many.
In a society that changes rules all the time to make it easier to have success (or change rules for offense to make it more exciting) this answer is so refreshing
There's been talk about moving the dates of the Triple Crown to make it easier for the horses.
As we wait on the decision whether or not Golden Tempo will run in the Preakness, I find this answer by Trainer Cherie DeVaux interesting.
"It's hard to win for a reason"
One of the cool things about sports is that the race itself was two minutes long but there are hundreds of stories out of one race. This being one of the coolest
I love watching people who have mastered their craft. These people know things before the rest of us. She knew they had a chance well before anyone else. Knew the horse, knew the plan …. That’s cool
@JustinMacmahan I think there is a broader historical question that includes equestrian vs horse racing. Why do more women than men compete in dressage and other equestrian games vs horse racing. There is a lot of history there when looking at both genders.
Boston never could get the lead. Had three possessions with good looks but never made the shot and I honestly believe they get the lead one time in the final couple of minutes they win the game.
You all know I LOVE this….I am also a person that values sharing reality….just the same as many D1s are D1 in name only; IWU is NAIA in name only. That is a VERY elite athletic department and institution. They operate at a high level! Very school story and great seeing a young person do what they think is right for them.
The whichever is sooner hurts. We have kids graduating High school in the Dominican Republic at 16. Ready academically but not ready for the scholarship. It actually hurts the ones that are better academically.
An NCAA proposal would give DI athletes 5 seasons of competition, from the time of their 19th bday or high school graduation (whichever is sooner).
No waivers, no redshirts.
This is a sensible rule.
But the important question is whether it can withstand antitrust challenge.
I’ll give you the argument of we shouldn’t be arguing exceptions… the number is low, however many other countries have same issues of the most intelligent graduating early. But all the kids we (the ministry I am with) have sent do well in class. We offer English and math classes here and most of our kids have not struggled with English but have still struggled a little bit but pressing on in Math. Most start in juco or naia. But again have several inside our programs that we would like to change that for them and this rule hurts. Unless we want a kid to just keep redoing 12th grade (which we won’t do)
@dwilsonphx93 Never said it was, but most I work with can’t afford college and they can receive a free education based on athletic ability. Therefore, changing the trajectory of their life economically. This rule hurts those less fortunate that are higher academics.
