To the wiggle monsters and lateral drill artists—this is the non-negotiable foundation before any COD work:
The mentality AND the technical ability to attack vertically with full commitment.
No vertical threat = no respect = no space to wiggle.
Get violent north-south first.
@rmcgill25 Yes certainly nuances between the two deliveries. I’ve observed it also with 3B/SS who have similar time constraint/velocity demands as QBs.
Watch where the back foot trends; beginning with a turn then shifting to a torque.
The throwing arm syncs with this action by drawing back to a stretch, then cycling around to release.
Former NFL QB Davis Webb.
Observe the action of the back foot. It doesn’t turn toward the target; instead, it snaps backward, establishing an anchor that generates torque, which then travels up the chain.
Shanahan knew they were going to be in Cover-2 so he had this OTB-Dig combo to conflict the pole-runner (MLB).
He can run deep and cut off the dig but he’d have to void the underneath middle and Purdy would just split the SAM and WLB to Tonges.
Quick read and layering
Joe Brady weighs in on Pure Progressions...
"I just think that defenses are doing such a great job nowadays of so many things look like it is pre-snap and if you live in a progression read - you can just work through it and not care about what it is going to look like post-snap."
People that think QB’s having mostly pure progression reads because they can’t handle coverages based options need to listen to this.
It’s IMPOSSIBLE nowadays to figure out pre-snap what coverage a defense is in…hence pure progression.
If you want to hear about pure progression and the role it plays in todays football, KOC talks about it here starting about the 7:30 mark. I answered a question earlier today about my experience in the “pure progression vs coverage based progressions” earlier today and his explanations are great

Lesson for HS & even CFB WR’s… if the DB is playing off, quit doing the dumb stuff you do all summer training, u don’t need to do anything at the LOS.. drop that head/shoulders & attack that space. Stem if u need to, but attack and push the DB upfield
