Parents: Teach kids that their relationship with their coach is THEIR relationship. They have to take the initiative to work out issues instead of depending on you to do it. Don’t intervene on their behalf unless it’s absolutely necessary. That kind of independence is invaluable.
Reminder:
Your grades don’t define you. Your finals don’t have the final say on what you’re worth. God does. And He says you’re worth Jesus to Him. Don’t worry. Whether you get straight As, a few Bs, Cs, or fail a class.. Jesus still loves you & His plans for you are still good.
When coaches don’t practice what they preach, they lose respect from their players. Leading by example is one of the best ways to gain respect and motivate your players, because actions speak louder than words.
The Language of Successful Coaches:
I believe in you
I trust you
You are very important
Your role matters
I appreciate your commitment
I’m here to help
I want your opinion
I’m teaching you tools to succeed
I’ll hold you accountable
I believe in our team
Your future is important
Athlete’s Parents:
Support the entire team
Don’t compare their child’s abilities
Let the coach be the coach
Are humble/grateful
Let your child enjoy the game
Aren’t negative about the coach/other players
Help out where you can
Love your child through ups & downs
Leave refs alone
"You have taught me that it's not about the wins or losses, but about surrounding yourself with a group of people that you can battle with every day and in the process create memories that will last a lifetime."

Words can not express how thankful I am for the opportunity to coach at Saline High School. This past season has been so magical. Being apart of a supportive and successful program has been a true blessing. Already looking forward to next season. Go Hornets! @SalineHornetVB
Underclassmen – Do yourself a favor, and ask to sit down (1 on 1), with the senior that you have the greatest respect for.
Ask them what their greatest regrets are over the past four years, ask them what they would do differently, ask what they’re most proud of, & TRULY LISTEN!
Discipline is . . .
- choice, not compliance.
- self-control, not obedience.
- flexible, not rigid.
-built, not born.
- internally created, not externally forced.
- always productive, not always painful.
PLAYERS: When a coach doesn't play you, they aren't disrespecting you or hating on you. They are respecting your teammates and loving the team. Good coaches play the players that make up the best team and that are the most trusted team members. Become that kind of teammate.
"No volleyball play can begin without a serve, and the serve is the only technique that is totally under your control.
In other endeavors, you cannot succeed without believing in yourself, and that belief is completely under your control"
– Karch Kiraly
