Story time (since some of you asked): The first time I covered LeBron in person he did something similar to what Jalen Johnson did. He knew I wanted to ask a question but the sheer number of people inside the locker room made it difficult. He went out of his way to make sure I got my question in. After the game as I left the Chick Hearn media room we crossed paths he was walking to the car park. For whatever reason I felt compelled to say “Thanks LeBron for the time”. He stopped and said no worries, asked me where I was from (noticing the accent) and thanked me for coming out. It was one of the more memorable exchanges in my career and gave me the confidence to where now no player feels too big to interview. He’s always given me the time of day ever since. It’s always stuck with me. Contrary to popular belief, ball players are good dudes for the most part.

I see today is going to be “Blame the Rockets!” day rather than maybe a little introspection from folks who at various times this year said with absolute and total conviction…

•LeBron’s contract is an albatross/Lakers should be desperate to move off him.
•The Lakers are better without LeBron on the court.
•KD & Steph are clearly better than LeBron at this point.
•LeBron was a primary problem with the Lakers defense.
•This offseason any serious team shouldn’t offer LeBron more than the mid-level exception.
•The Rockets had 5 of the 6 best players in the series & should sweep the Lakers.

These takes were EVERYWHERE all year long. You were considered delusional/fanboy if you pushed back at all.

He highlights the importance of players approaching their offseason with intentionality.

Of course work on your all-around skillset, but be sure to have a laser focus on upgrading the facets of your game that will be used to maximize your team’s success.

Many players may say they want to win, but they’re really saying they want to win on their terms.

To be apart of something great, it takes being deliberate, being willing to sacrifice, and being able to accept a role that aids in something that can be greater than the sum of its parts.
