Bad athletes: take nothing seriously
Average athletes: take competition seriously
Good athletes: take competition and training seriously
Great athletes: take competition, training, weights, film study, recovery, nutrition, sleep, habits, injury prevention, etc seriously
I wanna coach guys who:
• Return their shopping 🛒’s
• Hold 🚪’s open for others
• Say please and thank you
• Smile at strangers
• Pick up other people’s 🗑
• AND would run over their own mother (if she were wearing a different color jersey)!
5 Masterclass Leadership Lessons from @GarethSouthgate 🏴
1. Clarity matters
2. Team before self
3. Be empathetic
4. Stay accountable
5. Everyone gets treated the same
Athletes spend a crazy amount of time worrying about what pre-workout to take, whether they’re using the most innovative training program/exercise variations, when many would benefit more simply by focusing on improving their technique to most effectively stimulate progress.
You wouldn’t build a big house in the middle of a beach, so you better work on creating a better “foundation” of technique before adding more weight on the bar.
It’s important to provide some guidance and education on a range of areas when working with athletes. Taking the time to watch training helps highlight basic issues that can impact performance. Poor hydration for many of our swimmers was one of them! 💧 @ReptonSport@ReptonSwim
Why do you expect it to be easy?
Learning anything new should be difficult.
You should feel inept and confused.
Feelings of inadequacy, incompetence, and frustration are key elements of learning.
It means you care. It means you’re doing the work.
Embrace the struggle.

Sometimes the really hard work and the most productive activity is staring off into space and thinking about what is truly valuable and how you may be able to get there.
