Every successful HS coach needs a strong right hand man that will be loyal to him & never undermine him. If you look at some of the best programs, they have loyal, smart Number 2 guys. WHO DONT WANT TO BETRAY THE HC. Too many assistant coaches with personal agendas
LEADERSHIP VS POPULARITY
True leadership isn’t built on popularity. It’s built on standards, accountability, and decisions that serve the mission not feelings. If you’re not prepared to be questioned, criticized, and second guessed, you’re not prepared to lead.
Programs are built by the players who do the jobs nobody brags about.
Scout team. Special teams. Lead blocking for someone else’s highlight. Dirty work.
That’s the real glue of the team
As an AD, you learn quickly that the loudest voices are not always the right ones. Many are driven by personal agendas, not the mission of the program. Volume does not equal value. Stay anchored to the people and principles that actually move your program forward.
Young coaches: Don’t rush to be a head coach. Master being a coach first. The details you skip now will show up later. Build your foundation, learn every role, and earn it the right way.
#coaching
Find me the coaches that are winning games with a broken down Honda.
Not the coaches that have two Ferraris and think they’re out coaching their opponent.

The best programs aren't built on flashy offenses or highlight reels.
They're built on:
- Players who'd rather take a charge than score.
- Coaches who hold everyone accountable, no matter their role.
- Teams that celebrate the 12th player's success as much as the star's.
As an AD, I remind our athletes that attendance doesn’t equal effort. Just being at practice or walking around in the weight isn’t enough, real work happens in the details, the extra reps, and when no one’s watching. 💪🏽
Being coachable means you're willing to consider feedback even if you don't like what you hear. It means resisting the urge to make excuses or get defensive when challenged. Getting better is more important than your ego.
