⚽️Principles relevant to De Zerbi’s (and others) playing style >>

GK advances until pressure comes.
When pressure is drawn by GK a free player is created.
Use of 3rd man to connect with free player.
GK stands still as pressure arrives.
Sole control from GK and scoring player.

Arizona State Goalkeepers - Cross Management (Decision Making)

Activation - (Exercises to get the mind/hands & feet working & Competitive)
Spikeball Activation tog get the feet and hands moving, lots of coordination and movement plus competitive.

Announced - (Creating actions we will see in the game in a controlled environment)
Technical High ball and handling exercise, Take a high ball, play the volley and play the volley again, constant rotation and movement, with varied actions you will see in the sessions.

Progression - Moving into creating a service to get diving, some hand eye coordination and saves in the box.

Unannounced (Decision making and live moments)
Live ball crossing variations, with moving ball, and 2 variables with a rebounder and shield. Decisions on tackling cross, management decisions on dropping and setting for save or winning the cross in punch or hold. Playing live off rebound moments, creating as many game like situations where we can’t cheat, and have to read the live ball.

Live/ Game -
Quick action game before moving into workin with the team, creating some close range reaction saves and protecting the immediate space around you, Working into some reaction saves from the rebounder.

Questions/ Education/ Thoughts?
- What actions are demanded of the Goalkeeper in cross management?
Before the action, during the action and after the actions are important to be attentive too?
Language in winning the ball, making the call, how?
Language in demanding defenders deal with the ball, how?
How can we read the ball and make save decisions?
Reaction saves and recovery saves?

Former German goalkeeper Robert Enke would have turned 46 today 💔

Enke unfortunately suffered a massive loss in 2006 when his daughter passed away and he struggled to come to terms with her death. Suffering from depression, Robert took his own life just aged 32 in 2009 🕊️

As goalkeepers, we should know how lonely it can be out there sometimes. But you are not alone. Please seek help, don’t suffer in silence. Open up to the ones that love you and embrace the support you need. It is an illness, not a weakness.
