UCMS students and staff were hyped up for their pep rally today! It was students vs. teachers in contests like tug-of-war, knockout, and the dizzy bat race. Great way to close out the first week of school! @UnionCoSchools@Coach_Coble
Bottom line for the summer: No more excuses about working out. Ultimately, it’s your team. Take ownership of it!
Great Team= Summer workouts are player led/productive
Good team= Only coaches get players excited about summer workouts
Bad team= Players hate/avoid summer workouts
My 11-year-old daughter Lyla loves basketball. She loves watching it, she loves talking about it, and she loves playing it.
As a father, there is nothing better than watching your child do something they enjoy.
And while she is a very smart and skilled player, like many children (and adults), she lacks confidence in herself.
She tends to equate her self-worth with her performance on the court (which is a common - and debilitating trap)… which heightens her anxiety.
She tethers her confidence to every missed shot, every turnover, and every foul… which causes her to play timidly and unassertively (as she is afraid to make mistakes).
This is the #1 thing we are working on together. I encourage her to focus on the process, not the result.
Was that a good shot to take (regardless of whether it went in)?
Did you play hard/smart/unselfishly (regardless of whether you won the game)?
Were you coachable and a good teammate (regardless of the outcome)?
I want to empower her to focus on what she has control over and let go of what she doesn’t (controllable vs uncontrollable) to build unshakable, unbreakable confidence!
I explain that true self confidence is also earned in 4 additional ways:
Demonstrated performance (seeing yourself do something and making progress/improvement)
Putting in work during The Unseen Hours (getting in quality reps)
Keeping your word to yourself (doing what you promised yourself you would do)
Empowering self-talk (making sure that little voice in your head is compassionate, not critical)
To be clear - earning the right to be confident is not easy… and is something many people struggle with their entire lives!

8 Realities of a High School Coach
1. It will consume you
2. There will be critics
3. You are not in it for the $
4. There is no overnight success
5. You need a supportive spouse
6. You will not make everyone happy
7. You can’t want it more than the kids
8. It is still WORTH it!
Everyone will focus on the impact a coach has on their players but we don’t talk enough about the impact players have on their coach. Love this group, proud of who they are and appreciate what they have added to my life.
"No man is more important than The Team. No coach is more important than The Team. If we think that way, all of us, everything that you do, you take into consideration what effect does it have on my Team? We're gonna win a championship because we're gonna play as a team."
The girls came out to celebrate Adalee turning 12. Beyond blessed. Always thankful for where life has taken me and for the people I get to spend it with.
