PLAYERS: Excuses and blaming things on other people will never get you closer to your goals. Losers find reasons why they can't do something. Champions always find ways to overcome challenges, avoid obstacles, minimize distractions, and get better.
In the stands, a H.S. parent complains to anyone who will listen that his kid isn't playing much.
Another parent: "Team is 15-2, Top 5 in the state, winning the league."
Response: "I don't care about that."
And there you have it.
For some parents, it's never about the team.
Coaches: You will be judged by people who know the least.
They don’t come to practice.
They don’t know the kids.
They just watch the scoreboard.
Stay grounded.
Thick skin isn’t optional, it’s the job.
A college coach can learn a lot from a quiet 0-for-4.
Was there hard contact?
Did the athlete compete every at-bat?
Did he run the ball out?
Did he stay locked in defensively?
Did his body language change?
The box score does not always tell the truth.
1 unselfish AB
can win a game
1 high baseball IQ play
can win a game
1 hustle play
can win a game
1 great base running read
can win a game
….And it could be early in the game!
If you REALLY want to win, dominating the “minor” details leads to “major” W’s!

Hitters
Fight your ass off with 2 strikes.
Spread out, choke up, take the plate away and refuse to strikeout.
It's you vs the man on the mound.
Don't let him beat you.
It's personal.
It's a competition.
Remember.
The only time it's acceptable to strikeout looking is with a full count on an expanded strike call.
Shrink the zone and don't expand in full counts.
Expand the zone with 2 strikes until the count goes full.
Then shrink the zone.
If you just put the ball in play, you will score more runs and win more games.
It ain’t rocket science!
K’s are going to happen, it’s inevitable, some pitchers have nasty stuff… But, when a TEAM shrinks it’s K percentage, they instantly are better.
Take pride in putting the ball in play!

The majority of high school baseball coaches aren’t in it for the paycheck.
The hours don’t match. The stress doesn’t match. The pay doesn’t match.
They do it for the love of the game, most people don’t realize that.
Went to a HS game yesterday. Had a D1 coach come meet me there to watch a kid.
During the game, the team’s catcher would sprint to his position every inning.
He’s an underclassman, the D1 coach wasn’t there for him, he is now on that coaches radar.
Some things preached at every level -
▪️sprint to your spot between innings
▪️show off your arm in between innings
▪️serious throws in the INF/OF and as a catcher
You can be 0-3 and still make an impression
As the High School season starts here in Connecticut…Remember
We know everyone loves velocity.
But a lot of HS games are still decided by one thing:
who throws more strikes.
Hits happen. FREE BASES CHANGE GAMES!
You will strike out.
You will make errors.
You will pitch bad.
That’s baseball.
The separator isn’t talent - it’s response.
The way you handle failure…
The way you reset…
The way you compete on the next pitch…
👉 That’s the game. ⚾️
Our baseball community lost a legend today - words can’t describe the impact Coach Rabbit Fulghum had in the baseball world.
May our thoughts and prayers be with the Fulghum family.
Let’s try again.
As someone who played the game and now coaches it…
it’s always interesting hearing the loudest experts in the stands.
Never filled out a lineup.
Never called a pitch.
Never had to look players in the eye after a tough decision.
But they’ve got all the answers.
One baseball and a throwing partner is the price of increasing velocity.
Doesn't require thousands of dollars spent at super duper velocity facilities.
Throw on a football field.
Work to throw it end zone to end zone.
Sounds too basic, I know.
and
It's free.
You will NEVER compete in a game at your full capability, unless you practice and train at your full capacity!
You can’t expect to PLAY CONFIDENT and PLAY HARD when you always PRACTICE SOFT and TRAIN SOFT!
BASEBALL TRUTH
How come parents never tell their kid’s math teacher how to teach calculus but they think as parents they have the right to tell a coach how much playing time and with whom and when their kid should play.
