Every player and coach needs to hear Landry Shamet (@landryshamet) explain how he embraced his situational role with the @nyknicks and his belief that if you help enough people get what they want, you'll eventually get what you want:
✨ The only reason we're able to see a star in the sky from earth 🌍 , is because there's so much light projecting from OTHER stars.
Similarly, in life — The more value you create for others, the more valuable opportunities will find you. ♻️
It's counterintuitive, but basketball rewards that act of sacrifice.
It’s an unwritten law and it doesn't care about your minutes, your contract, or your title.
🏀 The game has a funny way of giving back to those who consistently make winning easier for everyone else.
Your success is always a byproduct of your teammates, and therefore the more you're willing to shine light on others 🔦, the more light that will reflect onto you and illuminate your performance. 🌙
Teams work the same way. Your success is never created in isolation, it's illuminated by the countless teammates, coaches, and support staff who make your performance possible.
⭐️ The brightest stars aren’t the ones trying to be seen.
They’re the ones that never stop giving away their light. 🌟
A PARENT’S JOURNEY THROUGH YOUTH SPORTS:
Age 5: “He’s got a cannon.”
Age 6: “He’s the fastest kid out there. Coach said so.”
Age 7: “Rec ball isn’t challenging him anymore.”
Age 8: “We tried out for select. Obviously made it.”
Age 9: “$2,800 for the season. Plus uniforms. Plus tournaments. Plus hotels.”
Age 10: “Cooperstown is basically a family vacation, right?”
Age 11: “He needs a hitting guy. And a pitching guy. And probably a mental performance coach.”
Age 12: “I’m not a crazy sports parent. The OTHER parents are crazy.”
Age 13: “We changed schools. For academics. (And also baseball.)”
Age 14: “Showcases are a requirement at this age.”
Age 15: “Ya his ranking just ticked up. We’re cooking.”
Age 16: “He just needs to get seen by the right school.”
Age 17: “The D1 schools want him to walk on. He’ll earn a spot by sophomore year.”
Age 18: “Okay, D2 is actually really competitive.”
Age 19: “He’s redshirting. Strategic.”
Age 20: “He’s focusing on school now.”
Age 21: “You know what? He’s so much happier.”
Roughly 7% of high schoolers play in college.
About 1.5% of those get drafted.
Less than half of draftees ever play one day in the big leagues.
The odds of our kids going pro are somewhere between “struck by lightning” and “find a $100 in old shorts.”
I love youth sports (all my kids play a bunch of them) just keep a good perspective my friends. ✌️
Everybody wants discipline… until discipline gets loud. Everybody wants toughness… until toughness gets uncomfortable.
Hard coaching isn’t abuse. Hard coaching is correction. Hard coaching is standards. Hard coaching is loving a kid enough not to let him stay average.
If a coach is demanding effort, detail, toughness, and accountability bothers you… that probably says more about today’s culture than it does the coach.
Say what ya want about Tennessee basketball, but don’t forget that Rick Barnes has completely rebuilt this program from the ground up and turned it into a true New Blood. So so many memories. I try to remember the good ones. Better enjoy the moments before they pass you up.

HBD LARRY BIRD ☘️
LEBRON: “Man he was so COLD!!!!! Zero flaws in his game. Larry Legend.”
KOBE: “As the years go on, people really forgot how great Larry Bird was. He was ridiculous."

"To be successful, to be great, the thing people have in common - they realize they really don't have a choice. There is one way. The right way, the hard way, there are no shortcuts."

#ItTakesWhatItTakes
Let’s get some shit straight. Facts are facts.
1. Heupel had 2 months to get his starting QB ready. (Yalll LOVED hating Nico)
2. We lost our best two DBs basically before the season started and a lot of NIL went there.
3. You replaced 4/5 starters on the OL and 2/5 through the portal.. which yall swear is the end all be all.
4. We’re 5-2 with everything in front of us.
5. The “FAHR EVERYBODY” crowd is the reason we couldn’t go to a damn bowl game for 12 years.
6. Papaw lied to you. Tennessee football has always been exactly what we are right now.9-3/10-2 and a very solid football program.
Facts matter. Stop letting emotions control your life….
Team Eric Peay takes the first one tonight in a high scoring game over Team Purcell 103-91.
Caleb Eaves (DC) - 28 pts
Henry Hill (D-B) - 25 pts w 5-3’s
Overrated for culture - Meetings, posters, norms, players voting on values/rules.
Underrated for culture - have a few non-negotiables you'll lose your stuff over and be maniacal about holding people accountable.
Team Eric Peay shot lights out tonight winning 109-74 over Team Carpenter.
Caleb Eaves (Crockett) was on his game dropping 35!
Garrison Jones had a big 2nd half and ended with 21 on the night.
