You can see what water means when you meet the people waiting for it.

On site at Miidi Water Pan in Bura, Tana River Director Bibi Masha witnessed firsthand the excitement and hope of a community seeing a lasting solution to their water needs take shape.

As the region looks ahead to the expected El Niño rains, the 100,000m3 water pan is designed to capture and store the rain, bringing relief to households in the area and their livestock.

For the community, it is more than a water pan. It is the joy of knowing that when the rains come, every drop will count.

Watch Bibi Masha share what she saw and what Miidi means to the community.

Strengthening Partnerships for Regional Growth!
Today, Kishushe Ranching Cooperative Society Limited (KRCSL) paid a courtesy visit to the Coast Development Authority and presented the Mzima–KRCSL–Kengecha Integrated Water Supply Project to the CDA Ag. Managing Director Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera, alongside the Authority’s management and technical team.

Led by Board Chair Ms. Matilda Waleghwa, the delegation held discussions on the project’s potential to strengthen water access for more than 20,000 residents, schools, health facilities and livestock, while supporting regulated water supply for economic activities.

The project includes a 6.5–8 km transfer main and two 500m³ storage reservoirs at Kengecha Hill. It also seeks to establish controlled water access points that can help reduce pressure around Tsavo West National Park and minimise human-wildlife conflict.

Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera said: “Partnering to unlock key regional development opportunities is essential for direct socio-economic impact. Water is life, health and dignity—by investing in sustainable water infrastructure and shared governance, we lay the groundwork for a healthier, more prosperous future.”

The engagement marks an important step towards multi-agency collaboration in advancing sustainable water infrastructure and regional development in Taita Taveta County.

The journey has had its challenges, but the project remains on track.Mjanaheri Ngomeni Road Project.

Engineer Collins Omondi, the site Agent who oversees the planning and implementation of the Mjanaheri–Ngomeni Road, speaks about the challenges faced since the project began, including weather disruptions and the Middle East crisis, which affected fuel, bitumen and other construction materials, leading to time and cost pressures.

Despite the setbacks, the team remains focused on delivering the project on time and to the required standards.

CDA Ag. Md Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera received a courtesy call from Mr. Omar Abdalla from the Light Academy School Mombasa, who delivered a request for job-shadowing opportunities for the school’s pre-candidate students at CDA.

The proposed programme will give students an opportunity to visit CDA, interact with staff and learn about the Authority’s different programmes, projects and areas of work. The school says the one- to two-week exposure is intended to complement classroom learning with practical experience and help students better understand professional environments.

“I am excited about this opportunity and glad that these young people will have a chance to learn from CDA. Early exposure can help them understand the world of work, identify their interests and make more informed choices about the courses and careers they pursue after school. When we give young people space to discover their talents, we are also helping shape who they become.”
— Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera, Ag. Managing Director, CDA

The partnership will give the students an early look at where their learning can take them and a chance to begin connecting their talents with the outside world.

He sees the road taking shape every day.

So, who better to tell us where the Mjanaheri–Ngomeni Road stands than the engineer on site?

We sat down with Silah Abor, Site Engineer, for a straight-from-the-ground conversation on the 12-kilometre project when the works began, how far they have come, what is happening now and when the road is expected to be completed.

We’ve heard the voices of the people waiting for this road. Now, let’s hear from the man watching it being constructed.

Here’s what the Site Engineer had to say.
This interview was done two weeks ago therefore progress is far ahead.

Building a Healthy Workforce for Sustainable Development!

Coast Development Authority in partnership with SambaSports Youth Agenda, conducted an HIV/AIDS awareness session for staff working on the MISHDP-II Mjanaheri–Ngomeni Road Project from 19-20th September 2026; bringing together project staff and community leaders.

The session highlighted the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness and responsible health practices in safeguarding the wellbeing of the workforce and surrounding communities.

Beyond constructing roads and improving connectivity, sustainable development also means investing in the health, safety and resilience of the people who build and benefit from these projects. A healthy workforce and informed community contribute to productivity, social wellbeing and the long-term sustainability of development investments.

Through initiatives such as this, CDA and its partners continue to promote people-centred development that leaves lasting benefits beyond physical infrastructure.

A water pan taking shape in Marungu-Mkamwasi

In Mwanda Location, Wundanyi Constituency, a water pan being constructed by aCDA is steadily taking shape currently about 55% complete.

The 30,0000m3 capacity pan is designed to help communities in Marungu, Mkamwasi, Ndomokonyi and parts of Maktau cope with the long dry seasons common in these ASAL areas.

About 170 households are expected to benefit, alongside an estimated 1,500 livestock, including cattle, sheep and goats. The water source will also serve wildlife, with the area bordering Tsavo West National Park.

With an El Niño alert calling attention to changing weather patterns and the need to strengthen water resilience, projects like this are helping communities prepare for that season.
