who recently made the cowardly choice to browbeat professional audit staffers, telling them that I, as your ELECTED Auditor, shouldn’t be allowed to audit the Legislature because I used to work there (and
therefore know where to look). Yet, Senators like @PaulFeeneyMA, who’s been tied to the unions his entire career, and has also voted on union issues his entire time as a legislator, has always taken union votes. Former legislators, walk back in the state house as lobbyists & make millions $$$ off their relationships with Beacon Hill leaders - after just a year off.
I’m in my 3rd year as the elected, not appointed, Auditor. These Senators believe it’s okay for lobbyists to get full access for their powerful $ clients, but not okay for everyday taxpayers to get access to financial records that should be public through the elected auditor of their choice. We understand @MaSenateDems .
I challenge these Senators to make their hypocritical case in court where I frankly can’t wait to meet them. Looking forward to discussing how the Legislature audits the executive branch but calls it unconstitutional
when the executive branch conducts an audit of the Legislature in return after being mandated to do so by 72% of the electorate.
The phrase “checks and balances” is really hard for authoritarian governments, like the Massachusetts Legislature, to accept. If Senators actually thought their many hypocritical excuses had any merit — they’d sue us. Turns out that lying to 72% of taxpayers is working out better for legislators who seem to be relishing in the knowledge that they get to continue to break the law as long as @MassAGO refuses
to enforce it. #mapol
