To everyone explaining how officers can disarm a knifeman from the comfort of your sofa: you've never had to.
Seconds to decide. Knife still in hand. Lives on the line.
It's not tidy. The alternative to "ugly but effective" is a dead officer or dead member of the public.
@gmhales We keep comparing policing stats to population share as if deployment is random. It isnβt.
Police put resources where the need is. In London, black people are massively overrepresented as murder victims and suspects, so of course contact rates will look disproportionate too.
@RhysSullivan More like a very good intern. Scarily smart, oddly useful, but still needs direction and someone nearby to stop it confidently bullshitting.
@IainGould Thatβs not my experience. Good officers can face years under opaque investigation on a very low threshold. Some have been driven to suicide. The idea the system simply βprotects officersβ is nonsense.
Last weekend I was basically a roaming chaos detector⦠everything found me.
This weekend Iβm aiming for peace and quiet, which probably means Iβve just jinxed it.
If everyone could just behave themselves for once, thatβd be ideal.

@steipete Been trying Codex over the weekend as I blew out the limits on my Claude Max plan, not sure I yet rate it over Claude for coding.
Will keep using it for next week to see what happens.
I didn't write this article.
Well, I did. But I also didn't. π€£
Quill drafted it, Satoshi reviewed it & Jarvis published it.
I just asked for it and made tea.

Cleared of the break-in.
Jury couldnβt reach a verdict on the sledgehammer-to-a police-sergeant bit.
Stop the world, Iβd like to get off. π€¦ββοΈ
Palestine Action activists cleared over break-in at Israeli-linked UK defence firm.
βCorner had individually been accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, by striking police sergeant Kate Evans in her back with a sledgehammer.β
βToday the jury said they were unable to reach a verdict on that GBH allegation.β

London has 1,460 fewer officers than a year ago - so what better time to introduce new mandatory paperwork for every time an officer dares to stop a vehicle...
What an absolute waste of time.
It will make policing less productive.
It will make London less safe.
@gmhales Ah yes, the magical police officer multiplication trick. Disband burglary and drugs teams, rebadge everyone as βneighbourhoodβ, announce β13,000 more officersβ, and act surprised when burglary and drug problems spike.
