"Publicly traded, Alliant reported earning $703 million last year, a 2.5% increase from 2022.
Regulators approved allowing the utility a 9.65% return on equity, a measure of profitability, for both the electric and natural gas rate increases."

In all the drama over Biden, & all the mockery of Trump's unhinged (yet super-boring) convention speech, I haven't seen much attention to the language of climate politics during the Republican Convention.
But the GOP did unveil new climate propaganda, so let's take a look!
🧵
"Infrastructure failure is not to blame for those affected by the flooding. Iowa’s infrastructure was built for a different time—a different climate—and we need to adapt." New piece from @Iowa_Env via @gazettedotcom https://t.co/NHhTJyr6Ic
A report by @Iowa_Env, written with the American Lung Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, & the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska’s Comprehensive Healthcare System, highlights how coal pollution impacts the community's health. RSVP to learn more: https://t.co/gHR14rRFS9
MidAmerican generated 23% of its power from fossil fuels in 2022 but claimed 100% renewable energy in Iowa.
@Iowa_Env & ELPC support rescinding a rule legitimizing such claims, calling it misleading. https://t.co/noXL2uS4LP
Over 75 people rallied outside of #BerkshireHathaway's Shareholder Meeting, calling on the company to stop burning coal at their MidAmerican Energy coal plants. Communities on both sides of the Missouri River continue to suffer from the health impacts of coal pollution. It's time to #CleanUpMidAm: https://t.co/r2uTwnRcmW
"The Iowa Environmental Council is extremely disappointed that the state’s Solar for All application for $75 million to support a statewide community solar program has been rejected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency." More here from @Iowa_Env

I thought it would be hard to pick the worst argument in this pro-utility pro-ROFR article that recycles tired talking points. But then I read this excerpt -
Today the @Iowa_Env released a report, “Coal in Siouxland: MidAmerican Energy’s Legacy of Air Pollution and Health Impacts" written by Cody Smith, highlighting the negative impacts of MidAmerican's coal plants in Sioux City. Give it a read at the link --> https://t.co/LtOJTryRm3
A new IEC report examines coal plant pollution and lung disease in Woodbury Co. "The data in this report raise troubling questions and should be concerning to all Iowans and to MidAmerican Energy," says Cody Smith with IEC. Read more at https://t.co/JmiOWKRH0E #worldasthmaday
MN, WI, NE, and SD will each get $62.45 million from EPA's Solar for All grants. IL & MO will get $156.12 million each.
Iowa proposal not funded. Critics faulted state's “utility-driven approach,” which did not involve labor or registered apprenticeships: https://t.co/S2MbPQqow0
Siouxland deserves clean air. MidAmerican Energy needs to do better and act as the responsible corporate neighbor they claim to be. #Coal#Pollution#WorldAsthmaDay2024

Shoutout to all of the incredible people who joined today's rally calling on #BerkshireHathaway and MidAmerican to stop burning coal in our communities! We had countless conversations with shareholders who agree that it's time for a clean energy transition! #CleanUpMidAm
Coal pollution got you down? Do something about it Saturday, May 4 in Omaha!

Did you know MidAmerican Energy is still operating six coal-burning power plants that pollute in Iowa?
Coal not only causes the highest levels of climate pollution, it also causes local pollutants that cause or exacerbate asthma and produces toxic heavy metals like mercury.
Iowa has again missed out on #climate funding. This time, the state's application for funds under the Solar For All program has been denied. The application would have provided about 103 mw of community solar, benefiting approx. 12,000 households. This is a setback for our state.
Did someone say road trip? 🚌 Hop on the bus in Des Moines or Sioux City and join us for the rally outside of #BerkshireHathaway’s shareholder meeting! MidAmerican’s parent company must be held responsible for their coal investments. 🏭https://t.co/RMkPdxiWaS #CleanUpMidAm
“West Virginia, Iowa, South Dakota and Rhode Island fare the worst, with 15% to 20% of the bridges in each state rated ‘poor.’” https://t.co/FmHf8UDNj9
