Get off me ball!

Not sure why some players still don’t get it? … Doing certain things around the “diamond” are a bad look. They scream “selfish”or “look at me,” or “poor team culture.” Fair or unfair, they just do.
These things are also frowned upon by most recruiters and scouts. There is a time and a place for some of the following, but not when preparing to play a game or even at a team practice. My opinion, of course….But here are a few things to get….
- No headphones when stretching, throwing, taking BP, pre-game In/out, or during any other team activity. Save them for the bus.
- Crocks or sliders on your feet anywhere while you are preparing to compete. Cages, stretching, throwing, etc. Put cleats or turfs on as soon as you get inside the field and save the rest for the bus or hotel.
- Rolling shirt sleeves up into a make shift tank top during stretching, BP, In/out or game. Save that for the beach.
- Hanging around the ball field with your game jersey or undershirt untucked. Look like a player at all times at the ball park or take off your jersey until it’s time to put it on right.
- Wearing baseball pants without a belt. Again, look like a ball player and part of the team.
- Dugout team chants or chirping at opponents. This includes personal verbal attacks on anyone. Stay focused on your teammates. It’s that simple.
- Kneeling or sitting down on the field during mound visits or pitching changes. Are you really that tired and lazy you have to take a knee during the game?
- Talking to friends or parents outside the fence during the game. This should be obvious, but I still see it happen regularly. Stay focused on the game and winning.
- Sending parents or friends off to concessions during games. Be prepared with food and drink before the game starts.
- What did I forget?
Dads inquiring about baseball lessons for 4 and 5 year olds…they don’t need lessons they need you to play with them. Save that money and play with the game just the two of you…however it looks. 🤷♂️
Do we want to go through life “playing it safe” our entire lives?
Do we want to wake up at 75 years old wishing we did something cool?
Wishing we had an opportunity to throw 156+ pitches to chase a DOGPILE.
Pick your moments to BURN THE BOATS for something special.
7-8u Baseball Hacks 101:
Give each player 1 INF & 1 OF position for the 1st half of the season. Everyone can pitch, catch guys who want to catch.
Let them get comfortable somewhere so they can see what goes on during a game.
Moving them all over just makes it more confusing.
@pjonesbaseball Or what happens when those things are not a part of the game (school ball), does it become boring and then they're no longer interested?
I went to a 10u game this weekend:
- Each player had a walk-up song
- Name was announced
- Last name on jersey
If we give kids everything this young...
What do they have to look forward to?
Poor body language could END your career path.. NO COACH (at any level) wants an "energy vampire" on their team, or a "me first" player
Positive body language will only lengthen that career.. ALL COACHES want "spark plugs" "energy givers" "team first" players in their program 💯
"Under pressure, you don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training"
That's why YOU train hard! 💪
That's why YOU study hard! 📖
That's why YOU PREPARE 💯
When I started coaching 8u I asked a coach how his guys were so aware:
They gave them one INF & one OF position only, plus pitch/catch if they want. So they can get comfortable enough at a position to be able to observe the others. By halfway thru the yr they could play anywhere
Positive is EARNED! If a player isn't working hard, sacrificing for the team, being a great teammate, and playing with energy and toughness...he hasn't earned his pats on the ass and praise! You want positive? EARN IT! With preparation and performance!
