okay, I guess it’s time to tell all the good folks of Data Engineering Twitter that I’ve got a newsletter!
my latest post: Analyzing an End-to-End Data Architecture

great post from Justin at @readtechnically on sensitive data tokenization. I would add there are both vaulted and vaultless tokenizers, the latter acting just like encryption. also do not roll your own! https://t.co/F7qpNVIQQb
There is a lot of justified hype about DuckDb but folks who think it's a total replacement for snowflake are underestimating value of metadata catalogs, user management, security, views, and a bunch of other stuff that DBs do beyond plowing through data.
You know what a Staff+ engineer does? They help a room or zoom full of very smart people see the forest through the trees. It isn’t about intelligence (your team is likely pretty smart… collectively), but instead it’s about the details and the direction.
My dog, who routinely howls at sirens, was just howling at a siren, and a woman walked by and asked “who are you singing to?” and I said “oh, he just does this” and she looked at me and responded in a voice of absolute death, “I was talking to him.”
Around 1980 Dr. Robert Plutchik was a invented "The Feelings Wheel" designed to help patients identify their feelings and where they stem from.
For example you can use the wheel to identify:
1.) "I am angry"
⬇
2.) "Specifically I feel let down"
⬇
3.) "I am resentful"
The fact that someone thinks you’d be a good fit for a particular project might mean that it’s very similar to work you’ve done before and not an opportunity for growth.
