While DC does have a vocal anti-AV minority, I've also heard tons of enthusiasm and openness from residents.
DC Council scheduled a hearing about @CMCharlesAllen's AV legislation on July 13th and invited the public to testify.

New: A new book by John Leganski reveals new details about the lead up to McCarthy’s ouster:
Despite Matt Gaetz’s insistence that he ousted McCarthy on policy grounds, Gaetz routinely brought up his Ethics Investigation to McCarthy.
At one point, he texted a screenshot of a tweet about his Ethics Investigation saying: “Very poor decision. See you soon.”
The book also reveals that Jeffries privately told McCarthy that he didn’t want to help Gaetz remove him, but admitted that his conference wouldn’t let him vote to save him.
“You have five families, Kevin. I’ve got eleven,” Jeffries told the then-speaker, referring to their party factions, according to the book.
The day of the vacate vote, McCarthy let Jeffries off the hook:
“Just my opinion—don’t split your conference,” McCarthy texted Jeffries, according to the book. “This is my fight in my party.”

For anyone waiting for Washington to provide the regulatory clarity that autonomous trucking companies need to scale, the AV provisions in the bipartisan BUILD America 250 Act are a meaningful development. The federal policy framework being assembled reflects a bipartisan consensus that the United States cannot afford to fall behind on this technology, lest strategic competitors like China pass us by.

Steven Spielberg on what it's like working with Colman Domingo:
"Kinda like riding in a @Waymo where you don't have to do anything but sit in the back seat, because the car drives very well by itself" 😂

A 60mph+ reckless wrong-way driver on a 40mph road can easily lead to severe collisions. Two different Waymos (and an attentive human ahead!) avoided tragedy in Phoenix the other week by taking evasive action.
We’re expanding in Miami, with Austin, Atlanta, Houston and the SF Bay Area up next. Soon we'll cover 1,400+ square miles across 11 cities. We’re helping more people get around safely and seamlessly.
Waymo has been named a @TIME 100 Industry Leader for 2026! 🏆With 500K+ weekly rides across 11 cities and even more locations on the way, we're proud to be leading the charge toward a safer, autonomous future. #TIME100CompaniesIndustryLeader

This notion that the data must be fake because the peer-reviewed analysis of crash data reported to the government was originally done by the research team at Waymo makes no sense. You can download the data straight from NHTSA! You can do your own analysis!

Last year, AVIA hosted Autonomy Summit 25, bringing together the autonomous vehicle community's most influential voices to discuss policies and partnerships that will define the next chapter of American mobility.
This year, we are pleased to announce that Autonomy Summit 26 will be held on October 7 in Austin, TX.
