My new favorite word: sonder.
It's the profound awareness that every person you encounter has experienced a lifetime of hopes, fears, loves, and heartaches that you'll never know.
Each moment of sonder is a reminder to appreciate how little we truly grasp about others' lives.

On Hats, Haircuts, and Tattoos
I think about decisions in three ways: hats, haircuts, and tattoos.
Most decisions are like hats. Try one and if you don't like it, put it back and try another. The cost of a mistake is low, so move quickly and try a bunch of hats.
Some decisions are like haircuts. You can fix a bad one, but it won't be quick and you might feel foolish for awhile. That said, don't be scared of a bad haircut. Trying something new is usually a risk worth taking. If it doesn't work out, by this time next year you will have moved on and so will everyone else.
A few decisions are like tattoos. Once you make them, you have to live with them. Some mistakes are irreversible. Maybe you’ll move on for a moment, but then you'll glance in the mirror and be reminded of that choice all over again. Even years later, the decision leaves a mark. When you're dealing with an irreversible choice, move slowly and think carefully.

(Hat tip to @tferriss, who once compared making decisions to choosing a sweater, which sent me down this line of thinking.)
An iced coffee costs about $5 a day. That’s roughly $35 per week or $140 per month. Now you’re spending $1,680 per year.
Over the course of 10 years that’s $16,680, which is not enough to make a down payment on house.
So, enjoy your iced coffee.
@beanthereat BWT is pretty easy as the whole thing uses push fit connectors and hose. Hardest thing as a non plummer is working out which fittings you need to connect it to your water inlet and tap. Best idea is to install dedicated filtered tap to prolong cartridge longevity
What I used to consider a flex:
• Flashy car
• Expensive watch
• $200 bottle of wine
What I now consider a flex:
• Being able to take my son swimming at 1pm on a Wednesday
Freedom > Everything
The edge is in the inputs.
The person who consumes from better sources, gets better thoughts. The person who asks better questions, gets better answers. The person who builds better habits, gets better results.
It’s not the outcomes. It’s the inputs.
If you want to think for yourself, you can’t have someone always whispering in your ear. If you want space to think, you need quiet and calm – not a bunch of smart people throwing out new ideas.
