Today in NYC we started celebrating the bicentennial of Lafayette’s farewell tour to the U.S.! Just like in 1824, the 🇫🇷 hero of the 🇺🇸Revolution arrived in majestic fashion.
Thanks to @LafayetteFriend for keeping his memory & legacy alive: https://t.co/arieJgcs9b

#OTD 1890, The Colonial Dames of America, the oldest patriotic hereditary society of women descended from Colonial ancestry was founded. The CDA has around 40 chapters in the US and Europe and has actively carried out historic preservation projects for the past 130 years.
In 2017, curators at the Museum discovered the only known wartime, eyewitness image of Gen. Washington’s tent from the Revolutionary War—a detail from a watercolor scene showing the army’s encampment at Verplanck’s Point.

This is a corporate giant that had a moral duty to help us preserve the standing ruin of Griffin’s Tavern!
