Many young girls within the playing unit at Kenya Women's volleyball team were unofficial girlfriends of top federation officials. It was the only way they'd get jobs at Kenya Pipeline, KCB and Kenya Prisons Service. They were sex slaves of KVF bosses.

I've seen Janet Wanja grow from a young girl in 2005 to an elite volleyball player when I became a journalist 20 years ago. Her talent was undeniable and her reputation went beyond the game. But beyond the smile and talent was a sad tale of a troubled life seldom talked about.

The suffering is over for Janet Wanja. She's hopefully at peace and resting in peace. She'll no longer worry about the sexual predators at Kenya Volleyball Federation. She's finished the game and has now been substituted to the other world. A libero spirit lives on.

Janet Wanja was a media darling. Her beauty and talent were an editorial magnet - and a fan's favourite. She pulled the crowds and lifted the game. She made some of us journalists of some repute - or lack of it. Her game's over. We're only writing about it-as we've done for years

As Janet Wanja is laid to rest, the sex pests at Kenya Volleyball Federation will quickly return to the "ground" to scout for younger victims of their deranged behaviour. They'll be relieved Janet Wanja didn't speak out before her death-and that she doesn't speak from her grave.
