This is what Operation “Hope & Order” looks like from the ground. Recently, members of Columbia People’s Programs witnessed an unhoused person being arrested for taking shelter from rain under a bridge. 1/3

This is the “solution” the city has found for the unhoused people living in downtown, rather than finding ways to actually help folks get the services and help they need. Columbia People’s Programs condemns the city’s hostility towards our unhoused neighbors.

Today we had a successful drop off of tent supplies to someone who reached out to us asking for help obtaining shelter. We are happy to help anyone who is in need to the best of our ability, especially now that Operation “Hope & Order” is creating more needs by the day.

Drag show defense at the New Brooklyn Tavern tomorrow night at 7:30 pm! The organizers of "sounds gay i'm in" drag show have received information about planned protests outside their venue. We need community support. Bring yourself, your friends, water, and signs and a mask!

Earlier today, Columbia City Council and CPD Chief Skip Holbrook unveiled "Hope and Order," a plan supposedly designed to help the unhoused community in Columbia and instill public safety. The reality could not be further from the truth.

Since February we’ve been consistently distributing food & water to our neighbors at Finlay park on Fridays and Sundays. We’ve been able to provide hot food like corn beef stew & homemade chicken curry in addition to our usual offering of sandwiches, sweets, & water as well. 1/3

As we continue our efforts to build a network of solidarity to fend off the damages produced by capitalism, we face new challenges such as the city planning a full renovation of Finlay park, and with the hot summer months approaching. 2/3

This wednesday, right wing group Turning Point USC is holding a "talk about transgenderism" event at USC, where they will be spreading hate and anti-trans lies. Since they've asked so nicely, we're going to bring a LOT of transgender people.

USC students are holding a vigil in memory of Brianna Ghey, a British 16 year old trans woman that was murdered. Candles will be available, but bring your own and some friends. In times like these it's important that we gather and not have to process these tragedies alone.

It's been rainy the past few weeks, but we've still been able to distribute hot coffee coco/tea, plenty of sandwiches, sweets, as well as various produce and cooked food like boiled eggs and homemade curry.

We had a great time at Finlay Park today, where we handed out Potato Soup, Mac & Cheese, sweets, a few sandwiches, coffee and hot tea. We also gave out some clothing to our neighbors as well.
