That workload gives him enough volume to attack this number even without needing an extreme strikeout rate.

His recent underlying numbers support the production. Over his last six starts, Melton has generated:

The Giants traded Luis Arraez, who carried just a 5% K rate and is one of the strongest contact bats in baseball. Without Arraez, their strikeout rate has climbed to 26.24%, moving them from a bottom-five strikeout offense closer to the middle of the league.
