China has continued supplying Iran with parts used in drones and ballistic missiles during its war with the US – WSJ

Iranian customs records show around 1,300 shipments of dual-use parts from China to Iran's defense ministry during the first six months of 2026. The shipments included electronics, GPS devices, motors and aircraft parts.

After the US naval blockade, Iran increased air cargo flights from China. Iran's Mahan Air made 39 flights from China during the first week of september.

Here's a crude map of the competing spheres of influence in MENA and the Horn of Africa. Green represents the "Mecca Alliance" and mainstream Arab or majority-Muslim states. Red represents the Axis of Resistance, and purple represents Israeli and Emirati allies and proxies.

The exact demarcations aren't accurate as certain provinces and subdivision don't exactly correspond with the reality on the ground, but I did the best I could to highlight regional idiosyncrasies. I left several regions blank due to lack of a clear alignment, including in Iraq.

In areas such as the Central African Republic I overrestimated government control as the insurgents' control zone forms an extremely irregular shape. There are also certain countries or regions with overlapping relationships that are worth highlighting.

🇸🇦Aramco Is Planning a Major Reorganization to Create a Standalone Gas Division

That headline alone tells only half the story ....it's launching this pivot while Abu Dhabi's XRG has quietly built a global gas empire on the side.

Reuters reports aramco is planning a major reorganization to create a standalone gas division, with an eye toward eventually listing pieces of it to raise cash.

On paper, it's smart give gas its own capital-raising path and free crude economics from gas investment needs.

Aramco is doing this while managing a genuinely rough few weeks on its core business.

The Houthis have kept pressure on Saudi shipping routes and the Pipeline.

The pipeline only came back online this week, at a reduced rate.

This is a company managing acute risk to its main product while trying to build a new one from scratch.

XRG hasn't had to manage any of that and it's been moving fast.

In just the past several months it has taken a bigger stake in NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG project in Texas, a 38% position in a Turkmenistan gas field with Petronas, an offshore gas license in Venezuela, gas blocks tied to Argentina's LNG buildout and it's now reportedly in talks for a stake in Shell's LNG Canada project on top of discussions over Shell's North West Shelf project in Australia.

XRG is already assembled a global one, basin by basin, while Saudi Arabia has been playing defense.

Aramco's gas pivot is the right long-term strategy, but it's launching from a position of real near term strain geopolitical risk sitting directly on top of its core revenue engine.

XRG had no such distraction.

In the race to own the world's gas supply chain, Abu Dhabi is simply further along, and Riyadh's timing couldn't be tougher.
