UEFA president said the 48 team World Cup creates “uninteresting” games. A few days later, the Champions of Europe fail to beat World Cup debutants, Cape Verde.
Ivory Coast have beaten three HUGE teams in their recent games:
🇨🇮 Ivory Coast 2-1 France 🇫🇷
🇨🇮 Ivory Coast 2-0 Philadelphia Union II 🇺🇸
🇨🇮 Ivory Coast 1-0 Ecuador 🇪🇨
Fun part of this World Cup is learning about all these specific ethnic enclaves in the US, every game has some cut that’s like “and here’s the famed Curaçaoan community in Wilmington, Delaware” and it’s some random bar with like 450,000 people
And so I'm off🛫
I’ve watched every World Cup since ’02, but hadn't actually attended a match until this year. Safe to say, I will never miss another.
What an unreal reminder of the beauty of humanity. The headlines are always about the scorelines, but the stories that will stick with me much longer are the little ones you completely miss if you aren't there. The American fan offering their flag as a blanket to a Scotland fan on the freezing train. The Scotland fan buying waters for a group of Mexico fans at a shadeless Fanfest. The 200+ dap ups a day. The hugs. The laughs. The cheers. The singing.
It brought a whole new meaning to "the beautiful game."⚽️ Boston, you were a hell of a host city. We will be back🏴🇺🇸
The World Cup begins tomorrow, and many will watch the matches. Soccer reminds us of something we must not forget: life is not a race to show off on our own, but a path we learn to walk together. Anyone who does not know how to pass the ball, even if they have talent, has not yet understood the game. Anyone who does not know how to live with and for others has not yet understood life. #ApostolicJourney
i'm not kidding, the US travel/tourism board (whatever that is at a Federal level lol) should sponsor the rest of that German guy's trip through the US, dude is doing insanely good PR for the South
@LaPravdaCa I hope you come one day. Maybe UCLA will also visit one of the Quebec universities like Laval, UQAM, UdeM, McGill, Concordia, etc. like so many NCAA schools have visited Carleton for basketball. UCLA often plays a Canadian university in men's volleyball exhibitions.
@sbsbruinsociety@a13cbruins I agree with your opinion in many ways, but disagree in that FBS still has no NCAA tournament so we are still in the poll-era despite vast improvements. Also, I hope that in 100 years, future Bruins still count our Wooden success like Yale should count their Walter Camp success.
@TomPower3@StoolWestwood It might be. Difference I see is that from the 2000s to the late 2010s, UCLA had so much selection for football gear and game-day accessories like foam helmets, fingers, pom-poms, etc. These were located at many locations so each section could reasonably get to them once inside.
@RH_1872@adamsummerton You are probably correct, but having seen the 2010 WC and other examples, I do think it is worth it to have VAR. But, not if it continues to be used how it has been, so maybe I am looking at this too ideologically rather than practically.
@Nedupat7@McFlybowy For Man City, CL dominance refers to deep runs and getting out of the group. Not dominance in the context of Real Madrid or others. You are correct in that context for sure, but this is more in a Man City context and the UCL has not been our strong suit.
@swagapinochet@samuelneedham@brian_callaci You are correct in that there a few out of all of the Francophone world. But, Montréal and the wider province have a disproportionate level of influence compared to many other examples, especially in global aviation, law, academics, and economics, among other expertise.
@moganetsimolemi@tnjlas Thank you. I am extremely proud of South Africa and Egypt for how well they represent Africa. You can see it at the club level. Let us hope we can see other leagues with African domestic born talent rise to these levels as well.
@JoshuaBarzon USA has an Olympic gold medal in rugby union 15s before World Cup was invented so yes, they are historically good. USA also has been solid in Twenty20 cricket recently, and does well in soccer, and extremely well in women's soccer.
