@Braca_M That was my thought as well LOL. The red eyes are a pretty good giveaway for a black-crowned night heron but it was tough to tell in the picture. Great photos!!
@eddoadt@algonquin_lakes We were there this past winter!! Track & Tower is one of our favourite trails as well. Lovely view of Cache Lake to enjoy a hot cup of coffee!
@rangerem_ @Braca_M The chewed, small tree is def from beaver activity.
The tree with the shallow gnaw marks was done by a porcupine (beavers don't leave shallow marks normally).
To confirm, you can look for peanut-shaped scat in the area as porcupines don't travel too far from home.
@Some_Eventful A10. Another time, camping with a group of teens in pouring rain. Middle of the night - we kept hearing swish, swish, silence, swish, swish, silence. The next morning, grass was flattened behind the tents. Stalker? Jason? Chuckie? Cops were called in #WeGetOutside
@Some_Eventful A10. Set up on only campsite on a small lake, no one else around, heard paddles splashing and a man & woman having a conversation. Thing was - there was no canoe, no man, no woman in sight. Nowhere. Big time creepy feelings. Still unexplained. #WeGetOutside
@Some_Eventful A7. Iβm always in awe of extreme weather. We survived a downburst, flooding and intense thunderstorm while camping along the Ottawa river. Knocked out power, raging floodwaters, and PYP lightening strikes & thunder bangs. Tarped the tent and waited it out #WeGetOutside
@Some_Eventful A5. Headlamps and a rechargeable 650 lumin flashlight (waterproof; made for bikes) is what we take with us. Iβm not brand loyal per say so donβt really have recommendations. Just donβt cheap out on it. #WeGetOutside
@Some_Eventful Q4. Iβve run into bears, moose, wolves, alligators, porcupines, sharks, snakes, etc but have never had to use anything. Keep your distance, read their body language, be aware of your surroundings. Does an Ouija board count to repel? #WeGetOutside
@Some_Eventful A3. We donβt carry anything specifically for frightening things. We have a multi tool with knife but thatβs about it. I take my husband with me - does that count as protection??? #WeGetOutside
@PrairieScribe @Some_Eventful Haha - we have clotting powder - more so for when we had our dog but itβs in the first aid kit. We havenβt had a dog for 8 years - does it go bad π #WeGetOutside
