Tech Integration Coach with Springfield School District, Springfield, Vt. 2013 Rowland Fellow researching mobile tech. Amazing family. BC skier, MTB rider
Great gathering of this brain trust. Believe you me when I say this trio could open a school district tomorrow that would rock your freakin' socks off. Smart, compassionate, funny, and empathetic to their core. Glad you met up. I miss you all.
Equitable Ed Conf. Who do I run into? Amazing former colleagues from Springfield, VT @MrRuppel@kevincoen Year ago, we were all working on these types of projects together in #SSDVT. Now we’re scattered across three states but still pursuing same goals. #SRIA23@GreatSchoolsP
I turned 60 on Feb. 28. I'm coming of age, an amazing time of life. But l'm watching pass those who provided the soundtrack of my youth. Another today: Wayne Shorter. Words can't do his playing justice, you must listen. I'll miss you.
A former student of mine will be a contestant on Jeopardy tomorrow night (Jan 27). So psyched for you Jake! We had many (many, many) great chats about the show during our time at BRHS. Go get em! @Jeopardy@KenJennings#loveoflearning See article in today's Burl. Free Press
🧐 Looking for a learning experience out there on Google Data Studio. Any suggestions? I can be flexible with format if it comes with good reviews. #GoogleDataStudio#DataStudio 🙏🏻
Its a metaphor: the new plan book, replacing the old, working in tandem with my trusty HP chromebook. It's year 5 in ed tech. But 30 years as HS ELA teacher, and lover of a good sharp pencil, keeps me rooted in the analog. Loving starting day 1 at RMS, an amazing school. #vted
@VermontZach Thanks for representing Vermont. Thanks for representing Springfield. Thanks for representing the faculty, staff and students of the #ssdvt. Mostly, thanks for always fighting for the big win.
I taught HS ELA for 30 years. I'm now in a district with two of my former students. OK, they didn't become English Ts, but they're making a difference in the lives of young people and are awesome educators. Watching their practices lifts my spirits. #ssdvt#vted
Saddened to read Robert Bly's obit in today's @nytimes An important American writer. Tired of the news? Tired of division and strife? Tired of Covid? Read poetry. Even one poem a day can gather your scattered self into a newfound whole. #cheaptherapy
The last two pghs from today's @nytdavidbrooks column on imagination. Continuing to "cultivate" imagination in our schools is so challenging, given the many current demands we face. But it may never, especially now, be more important. #techtoolscanhelp
Greetings. Please check out my new essay, just published in @EdSurge It's on the pervasive ransomware attacks, and what we in schools can do to slow this. The onramp begins with thoughtful and persistent tech integration. https://t.co/JySnHLDFFf #ssdvt@RowFn
Fresh lit arrived today! Yowza. Thanks to #ssdvt finance for the ordering help. And to @HollyClarkEdu@ShakeUpLearning@alicekeeler the authors and thinkers who’ve been essential to my ed tech journey. Grateful for all you’ve shared. Lastly, @RowFn who got me rolling!
Great day at the 10th annual @RowFn conference yesterday. Lots to think about love and freedom from @CarlaShalaby, and others. Grateful for this opportunity to commune with my #ssdvt colleagues. And always love a signed book! #rfc21#vted
A noble goal. But deals like this (I taught in Ludlow for 25 years and watched Okemo do the same) favor certain kids and certain families, typically those who didn't need it in the first place. Many who need the slopes the most get shut out. Pls rework outdated criteria.
Two notes on this: love @abuntcvu's idea of the teachable moment. Nothing like having a civics lesson handed to you. But mostly, I dig the image that leads the story. Less the sentiment, more the teen on the bus. All hail #adolescence!
It’s become a routine sight at Vermont’s largest secondary school: Every weekday morning, two mothers hold signs and protest the institution’s indoor mask requirement. #covid19vt https://t.co/dj6wktIrHu
An amazing resource, especially for grades where complex texts are read but explicit reading instruction often ends. From my practice, two examples: Hurston's "Eyes Were Watching God" and "Hamlet". Both really hard, but for different reasons. Neuroscience of Reading!
👀Look at what RI Science of Reading moderator @ShannonSaglio1 put together! This is a great resource for educators in Rhode Island and beyond who are asking "Where do I begin to learn about the Science of Reading?" https://t.co/AlqgGr21xf #RISOR#AnchoredintheSoR
Excited for the new Burns & Novick documentary arriving on #pbs on Monday: Hemingway. I can go deep here, and I love his bookshelf from Finca Vigia, his home in Cuba. Next to Yeats and Churchill is "A History of Ski-ing". Love that. #florentinefilms
Really appreciate this share and the many educators you've tagged who inspire me. Words: they're all we have, baby! Your newly reframed/reworded vision is great to see and great to hear. Thanks again. #ssdvt#gocosmos
